Dermatan sulfate

Mucopolysaccharidosis VI, or Maroteaux–Lamy disease, is an autosomal recessive disease characterized by deficiency of the enzyme arylsulfatase B in the lysosomal catabolism of glycosaminoglycans. Due to reduced (or even null) enzyme activity, glycosaminoglycans (mainly dermatan sulfate) accumulates, leading to a multisystemic disease.

Mucopolysaccharidosis týp I là một bệnh di truyền gen lặn rất hiếm gặp do thiếu hụt enzym α-L-iduronidase cần thiết của lysosom để giáng hóa dermatan sulfate và heparan sulfate. Mục tiêu: mô tả đặc điểm lâm sàng, phân tích đột biến gen IDUA trên một số bệnh nhi mắc mucopolysaccharidosis týp I tại Bệnh viện Nhi Trung ương. Đối tượng và phương pháp: 5 bệnh nhân mucopolysaccharidosis týp I được chẩn đoán dựa trên phân tích các dữ liệu lâm sàng và hoạt độ enzym. 3 bệnh nhân được phân tích gen.

Peyronie’s disease is characterized by fibrous plaque formation of the tunica albuginea, causing penile deformity and fertility problems. The aim of the present study was to investigate alterations in the extracellular matrix in Peyronie’s disease. The study used tissues collected by surgical procedure from individuals that presented a well-established disease, while control samples were obtained by biopsies of fresh cadavers. Immunohistochemistry analysis followed by digital quantification was performed to evaluate TGF-b, heparanases and metalloproteinases (MMPs).

Decorin is a small leucine-rich chondroitin/dermatan sulfate proteoglycan reported to interact with ®brillar collagens through its protein core and to localize atdandebands of the collagen ®bril banding pattern. Chondroitin and dermatan sulfate (CS and DS) chains were isolated from bovine tracheal cartilage and pig intestinal mucosal preparations and frag-mented by enzymatic methods. The oligosaccharides studied include a disaccharide and hexasaccharides from chondroitin ABC lyase digestion as well as trisaccharides already present in some commercial preparations.
