As clinical signs and symptoms of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) are often nonspecific, it is difficult to detect in the early stage, leading to high risk of relapse or recurrent metastasis. Plasma cell-free DNA of Epstein-Barr virus (cf-EBV DNA) is markedly associated with the development of undifferentiated NPC, and its level prior and subsequent to treatment is reliable for the screening, diagnosis, monitoring and prognosis of NPC.

Outbreaks of the Southern rice black-streaked dwarf virus (SRBSDV) have caused significant losses in many rice-growing areas in Vietnam, especially in both North and Central Vietnam in recent years. To detect the virus, traditional reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) methodology and immunoassays are currently employed. RT-PCR is accurate but requires expensive chemicals and instruments, as well as complex procedures that limit its applicability for field tests.

To develop a method using polymerase chain reaction with confronting two-pair primers (PCR-CTPP) to genotype MTHFR rs1801133 polymorphism in Vietnamese people. Methods: Fifteen DNA samples from a group of Vietnamese people were used to evaluate this assay. The Sanger sequencing method was used to identify the standard genotypes of the rs1801133 polymorphism.

Drug-resistant Tuberculosis (DR-TB) is challenging public health problem in countries with high tuberculosis prevalence and limited resources. Developing and applying the most appropriate and effective methods for diagnosing DR-TB from clinical samples is necessary, allowing a more rapid detection method for large-scale screening.

The incidence of hypervirulent epidemic Clostridium difficile has increased around the world and now in Australia. Assays that are capable of rapidly identifying these strains would enable earlier diagnosis and timely infection control response. The aims of the first part of the study were to validate and develop a molecular technique for the rapid diagnosis of toxigenic C.

Fat mass and obesity-associated protein (FTO) is a demethylase and plays a vital role in various cancers. However, the regulation mechanism of FTO in prostate cancer (PCa) remains unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the mechanism of FTO in PCa. The function and mechanism of FTO-mediated in PCa were determined by gain-of-function assays and RNA-seq. We found that FTO expression in PCa tissues and two PCa cell lines were significantly lower than that in adjacent tissues and normal cell line.

As a pestivirus of the Flaviviridae family, bovine viral diarrhea virus (BVDV), has imposed a large burden on animal husbandry worldwide, and such virus can be transmitted mainly through direct contact with other infected animals and probably via aerosols. In the present study, we aimed to develop a real-time RT-PCR method for detection of BVDV-1 in aerosol samples.

Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis (Cfv) is the pathogen responsible for Bovine Genital Campylobacteriosis (BGC), a venereal disease of cattle associated with impaired reproductive performance. Although several PCR assays were developed to identify this pathogen, most of them are still poorly evaluated in clinical samples.

Morbilliviruses are categorized under the family of Paramyxoviridae and have been associated with severe diseases, such as Peste des petits ruminants, canine distemper and measles with evidence of high morbidity and/or could cause major economic loss in production of livestock animals, such as goats and sheep. Feline morbillivirus (FeMV) is one of the members of Morbilliviruses that has been speculated to cause chronic kidney disease in cats even though a definite relationship is still unclear.

Pathogens including duck-origin avian influenza virus (AIV), duck-origin Newcastle disease virus (NDV) and duck Tembusu virus (DTMUV) posed great harm to ducks and caused great economic losses to the duck industry. In this study, we aim to develop a triplex real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay to detect these three viruses as early as possible in the suspicious duck flocks.

African swine fever virus (ASFV), classical swine fever virus (CSFV) and atypical porcine pestivirus (APPV) have caused great economic losses to the swine industry in China. Since coinfections of ASFV, CSFV and APPV occur in certain pig herds, it is necessary to accurately and differentially detect these pathogens in field-collected samples.

The results showed that the designed primers were specific to only Foc isolates from race 1 and tropical race 4 (TR4). The detection efficiency of the designed primers was compared to other published primers through optimized SYBR green-based real-time PCR assay and nested PCR. The new primers could detect the Foc genomic DNA at a minimum of 5 pg and target pathogen in a symptomless banana sucker. The specificity and sensitivity of the new primers were comparable to the published real-time PCR primers and the nested PCR assay.
