  • The usefulness of Rapid test and ELISA in the diagnosis of HCV in haemodialysis patients was analysed. In this study, Immuno Chromatography Test [ICT] rapid test was compared with ELISA for the effective detection of anti-HCV antibodies in patients on haemodialysis. A total of 106 blood samples, from chronic renal disease patients on haemodialysis were taken from the Department of Nephrology, Government Medical College Hospital, for a period of six months from July to December 2011. Sera were tested for anti HCV antibodies by rapid ICT and further tested by third generation ELISA.

  • Circulatory microRNAs have recently emerged as non-invasive and effective biomarkers for diagnosis of various diseases. Currently there is no reliable biomarker for diagnosis, prognosis or even staging of fibrotic and cirrhotic complications arising from HCV infection. This study aimed at investigating plasma miR484, miR-524, miR-615-5p and miR-628-3p expression signatures in Egyptian patients with HCV mediated cirrhosis, fibrosis and HCC.

  • The epidemiology of viral hepatitis and syphilis in antenatal patient is of paramount importance for health planner and program managers. This study was conducted to assess to know the seroprevalnce of Hepatitis B Hepatitis C and syphilis in antenatal patient and to re-evaluate the need for routine antenatal care screening. All samples were tested to detect HbsAg by enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), anti HCV antibody by ELISA and antibodies to Treponema palladium by qualitative Rapid Plasma Regain (RPR). Total 1000 samples were tested.

  • Hepatitis B virus and hepatitis C virus share common modes of transmission i.e. by blood and blood products mainly and also noticed in drug addicts. Hepatitis B virus and Hepatitis C virus have been recognized as a major pathogen causing significant morbidity and mortality throughout the world including India. The most important markers for HBV and HCV infection are HBsAg and Anti HCV antibodies respectively. Detection of infection markers for these agents is a major challenge in a resource poor setting.

  • Liver cancer grows silently with mild or no symptoms until advanced. In the absence of an effective treatment for advanced stage of hepatic cancer hope lies in early detection, and screening for high-risk population. Among Egyptians viral hepatitis is the most common risk factor for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The current work was designed to determine the level of prothrombin induced by vitamin K absence-II (PIVKA-II) in sera of patients suffering from HCC and hepatitis C virus (HCV) patients being the most common predisposing factor for HCC.

  • B-cell NHL is strongly associated with HCV that was proved in the last 2 decades. The most common HCV infection related B-NHL subtypes include MZL and DLBCL lymphomas. HCV-positive NHL patients usually present with older age at diagnosis, higher LDH, and more extranodal disease. The standard chemo-immunotherapy tolerance is generally good. Antiviral treatment achieves virological and hematological remission in HCV associated indolent lymphoma. More aggressive lymphoma requires combination of antiviral treatment and chemotherapy.
