Diagnostic performance

This study focused on evaluating the diagnostic performance of the lung point (LP)- a lung ultrasound (LUS) sign in detecting and semi-quantifying pneumothorax (PTX), using computed tomography (CT) as the reference standard. The study included 150 patients who underwent CT-guided transthoracic biopsy (TTB) for lung lesions.

We report a case of a 7-year-old child with urolithiasis in autotransplanted kidney treated with minipercutaneous nephrolithotomy. The patient presented with hematuria and graft hydronephrosis. Diagnostic procedures revealed ureterolithiasis as a cause of obstruction and blood in urine. Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy was successfully performed and during surgery, all stone fragments were removed.

To evaluate the prognosis value of facial nerve conduction study in Bell’s palsy outcome. Subjects and methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study using electro diagnostic data and medical chart review on 29 patients diagnosed with Bell’s palsy in Department of Neurology, Military Hospital 103 from January 2017 to December 2017, were evaluated using the facial nerve grading system 2.0 (FNGS) during their initial visit and on day 20 and day 40. We performed facial nerve conduction studies (NCS) in the first 5 days and on the 20th day.

Populations in Southeast AsiaandSouthChinahave highfrequencies ofa-thalassemia caused by a-globin gene mutations and/or deletions. This study was designed to find an efficient and simple diagnostic test for the mutations and deletions. A duplex polymerase chain reaction (PCR)/denaturing high-pressure liquid chromatography (DHPLC) was used to detect the mutations and deletions. A blinded study of 110 samples, which included 92 a-thalassemia samples with various genotypes and 18 normal DNA samples, was carried out by the methods.

Withholding further diagnostic testing and anticoagulant treatment in those patients with an unlikely clinical probability and a normal D-dimer level, which constitutes 30–50% of all referred patients, is safe. The remaining patients need to undergo (repeated) compression ultrasonography. An alternative approach is to perform a whole-leg imaging test on the day of referral. The advantage of this approach is that it eliminates the need for a repeat test (and may even obviate the probability assessment and D-dimer testing).
