Comorbidity between depression and cognitive impairment is common in older adults, increases the disease burden disproportionally, and leads to diagnostic uncertainty. Insight into individual daily associations between affect and cognitive performance may help in personalizing diagnosis and treatment decisions. Our objective was to get insight into the daily associations between affect and cognitive performance within individual older adults.

The explosive growth in taxonomic metagenome profiling methods over the past years has created a need for systematic comparisons using relevant performance criteria. The Open-community Profiling Assessment tooL (OPAL) implements commonly used performance metrics, including those of the first challenge of the initiative for the Critical Assessment of Metagenome Interpretation (CAMI), together with convenient visualizations.

Campylobacter fetus subsp. venerealis (Cfv) is the pathogen responsible for Bovine Genital Campylobacteriosis (BGC), a venereal disease of cattle associated with impaired reproductive performance. Although several PCR assays were developed to identify this pathogen, most of them are still poorly evaluated in clinical samples.

Fluid overloading is detrimental to organ function and results in a poor prognosis. It is necessary to evaluate fluid responsiveness before fluid loading. We performed a systematic meta-analysis to evaluate the diagnostic value of the respiratory variation in peripheral arterial blood flow peak velocity (△Vpeak PA) in predicting fluid responsiveness in mechanically ventilated patients.

Statin intake is associated with muscular side effects, among which the unmasking of latent myopathies and of malignant hyperthermia (MH) susceptibility have been reported. These findings, together with experimental data in small animals, prompt speculation that statin therapy may compromise the performance of skeletal muscle during diagnostic in vitro contracture tests (IVCT).

Fluid extravasation from the shoulder compartment and subsequent absorption into adjacent soft tissue is a well-documented phenomenon in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. We aimed to determine if a qualitative difference in ultrasound imaging of the interscalene brachial plexus exists in relation to the timing of performing an interscalene nerve block (preoperative or postoperative).

The report a case of a 7-year-old child with urolithiasis in autotransplanted kidney treated with minipercutaneous nephrolithotomy. The patient presented with hematuria and graft hydronephrosis. Diagnostic procedures revealed ureterolithiasis as a cause of obstruction and blood in urine. Mini-percutaneous nephrolithotomy was successfully performed and during surgery, all stone fragments were removed.

The therapeutic management of obesity is challenging, hence further elucidating the underlying mechanisms of obesity development and identifying new diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets are urgent and necessary. Here, we performed differential gene expression analysis and weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to identify significant genes and specific modules related to BMI based on gene expression profile data of 7 discordant monozygotic twins.

The superior accuracy and sensitivity of 18F-FDG-PET/CT in comparison to morphological imaging alone leads to an upstaging in up to 30% of lymphoma patients. Novel digital PET/CT scanners might enable to reduce administered tracer activity or scan time duration while maintaining diagnostic performance; this might allow for a higher patient throughput or a reduced radiation exposure, respectively.
