This paper presents the application of an evolutionary simulated annealing (ESA) method to design a small 200 MWt reactor core. The core design is based on a reference ACPR50 reactor deployed in a floating nuclear power plant. The core consists of 37 typical 17x17 PWR fuel assemblies with three different U-235 enrichments of 4.45, 3.40 and 2.35 wt%.

The comparative analysis was conducted for the two models of minor actinide loading in the LEU fuel assembly: homogeneous mixing in the UGD (Uranium-Gadolinium) pins and coating a thin layer to the UGD pins. The parameters to be analysed and compared include the reactivity of the LEU fuel assembly versus burnup and the transmutation of minor actinide nuclides when loading different minor actinide vectors into the LEU fuel assembly.

A comparison between stochastic and deterministic depletion calculations based on a graphite-filled MOX fuel assembly configuration is presented in this paper. The infinite multiplication factors and isotope inventory changes as a function of burnup obtained by Monte Carlo method module SCALE/KENO and deterministic method module SCALE/NEWT are compared with those obtained by deterministic code HELIOS. The impact in calculation results by using different nuclear data library is also investigated.

The TRIGA fuel of the Philippine Research Reactor-1 (PRR-1) will be used in a subcritical reactor assembly (SRA) to strengthen and advance nuclear science and engineering expertise in the Philippines. SRA offers a versatile and safe training and research facility since it can produce neutrons through nuclear fission reaction without achieving criticality. In this work, we used a geometrically detailed model of the PRR-1 TRIGA fuel to design a subcritical reactor assembly and calculate physical parameters of different fuel configuration.

The distribution of lateral hydraulic forces within the core row is estimated based on a two-dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics model with porous media, assuming symmetric or asymmetric core inlet and outlet flow profiles. The influence of the creep rate on the bow amplitude is tested based on different creep models for guide tubes and fuel rods. Different FA initial states are considered: fresh FAs or FAs with higher burnup, which may be initially straight or exhibit an initial bow from previous cycles.
