Dioscorea bulbifera

Fourty two yam (Dioscorea species) sprouted tubers were collected from six different major growing regions of Ethiopia and planted at Hawasa Agricultural Research Center. The Dioscorea species considered in this study were D. bulbifera, D. abyssinica, D. cayenensis, D. rotundata, D. praehensilis, and D. alata.

Thirty indigenous genotypes of Dioscorea (Dioscorea bulbifera) collected from twelve districts of Chhattisgarh viz., Bastar, Korba, Dhamtari, Rajnandgaon, Surguja, Kondagaon, Sukma, Balod, Narayanpur, Kanker, Dantewada and Bijapur. The collected genotypes show wide range of variability in morphological characteristics.

More than 90% of the formulations under the Indian Systems of Medicine that is, Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani, and Homoeopathy (AYUSH), predominantly contain plant-based raw materials. The efficacy of these systems thus mainly depends upon the use of genuine raw material of quality and standardized ingredients in the manufacture of medicines of these systems.
