In this paper, the problem of exponential stability of linear time-delay systems with mixed discrete and distributed delays is studied. Based on an asymmetric Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional approach, sufficient conditions are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities to guarantee the exponential convergence of the system state trajectories with a prescribed decay rate.

This paper investigates the problem of finite-time stability for discrete-time neural networks with sector-bounded neuron activation functions and interval-like timevarying delay. The extended reciprocally convex approach is used to establish a delay-dependent sufficient condition to ensure finite-time stability for this class of systems.

Magnetic bearing systems have received much attention in the research community for the past decades. Its inherent nonlinearity and open-loop instability present challenges for controller design. This thesis investigates and designs model predictive control (MPC) systems for an experimental Active Magnetic Bearing (AMB) laboratory system. A host-target development environment of real-time control system with hardware in the loop (HIL) is used for implementation of the predictive control systems. In this thesis, both continuous and discrete time model predictive controllers are studied.

PERIODIC SOLUTIONS OF A DISCRETE-TIME DIFFUSIVE SYSTEM GOVERNED BY BACKWARD DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS BINXIANG DAI AND JIEZHONG ZOU Received 22 November 2004 and in revised form 16 January 2005 A discrete-time delayed diffusion model governed by backward difference equations is investigated. By using the coincidence degree and the related continuation theorem as well as some priori estimates, easily verifiable sufficient criteria are established for the existence of positive periodic solutions. 1.

GLOBAL ATTRACTOR OF COUPLED DIFFERENCE EQUATIONS AND APPLICATIONS TO LOTKA-VOLTERRA SYSTEMS C. V. PAO Received 22 April 2004 This paper is concerned with a coupled system of nonlinear difference equations which is a discrete approximation of a class of nonlinear differential systems with time delays. The aim of the paper is to show the existence and uniqueness of a positive solution and to investigate the asymptotic behavior of the positive solution. Sufficient conditions are given to ensure that a unique positive equilibrium solution exists and is a global attractor of the difference system.

THERMODYNAMIC MODELING, ENERGY EQUIPARTITION, AND NONCONSERVATION OF ENTROPY FOR DISCRETE-TIME DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS WASSIM M. HADDAD, QING HUI, SERGEY G. NERSESOV, AND VIJAYSEKHAR CHELLABOINA Received 19 November 2004 We develop thermodynamic models for discrete-time large-scale dynamical systems. Specifically, using compartmental dynamical system theory, we develop energy flow models possessing energy conservation, energy equipartition, temperature equipartition, and entropy nonconservation principles for discrete-time, large-scale dynamical systems.

VECTOR DISSIPATIVITY THEORY FOR DISCRETE-TIME LARGE-SCALE NONLINEAR DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS WASSIM M. HADDAD, QING HUI, VIJAYSEKHAR CHELLABOINA, AND SERGEY NERSESOV Received 15 October 2003 In analyzing large-scale systems, it is often desirable to treat the overall system as a collection of interconnected subsystems. Solution properties of the large-scale system are then deduced from the solution properties of the individual subsystems and the nature of the system interconnections.

ON MONOTONICITY OF SOLUTIONS OF DISCRETE-TIME NONNEGATIVE AND COMPARTMENTAL DYNAMICAL SYSTEMS VIJAYSEKHAR CHELLABOINA, WASSIM M. HADDAD, JAMES M. BAILEY, AND JAYANTHY RAMAKRISHNAN Received 27 October 2003 Nonnegative and compartmental dynamical system models are widespread in biological, physiological, and pharmacological sciences. Since the state variables of these systems are typically masses or concentrations of a physical process, it is of interest to determine necessary and sufficient conditions under which the system states possess monotonic solutions.
