This paper proposes a system for ultra-light drone (ULD) auto–detection using only one nonstatic optical PTZ camera. The system includes multi-stages of suspect objects detection, clarification, and distance estimation. An AI model for detection and clarification stages is designed based on the YOLOv3 architecture and trained with a practical dataset.

To prevent illegal drones effectively, we apply deep neural networks to detect the illegal drones in a variety of conditions and different sizes of drones. Accordingly, a computer-based system using modern cameras combined with an algorithmic model can solve the complex drone detection problem.

This paper resolves the problem of detecting small drones in surveillance videos using deep learning algorithms. Single Shot Detector (SSD) object detection algorithm and MobileNet-v2 architecture as the backbone were used for our experiments. The pretrained model was re-trained on custom drone synthetic dataset by using transfer learning’s fine-tune technique. The results of detecting drone in our experiments were around 90.8%.

This paper proposes a hybrid approach combining two emerging convolutional neural networks: Faster R-CNN and YOLOv2 to detect drones in images. Experimental results show that the approach can add up to almost 5% and more than 11% to precision and recall for Faster R-CNN and add up to 3% and more than 6% to these two metrics for YOLOv2.
