  • Carbon microspheres with a uniform size of about 170 μm were prepared in a simple co-flow microfluidic device using solvent extraction method. An ethanol solution of colloidal silica and phenol formaldehyde (PF) resol was used as the dispersion phase, and a mixture of hexane and diisopropylamine was used as the continuous phase. The droplets of PF resol resin/silica were generated in the continuous phase.

  • This paper presents the possible combinations of advantage factors from PFI and GDI system by applying an airassisted injector on Semi-direct Injection System (SDI). Firstly, an adaptor that uses compressed air to improve the atomization of conventional injector and reduce droplet size is made. Secondly, the modifications of intake port by using vortex plate and the other by closing one intake valve increase swirl ratio of in-cylinder air motions which help to form rich mixture around spark plug and lean mixture at other locations.

  • Quantitative phase imaging (QPI) is an established tool for the marker-free classification and quantitative characterization of biological samples. For spherical objects, such as cells in suspension, microgel beads, or liquid droplets, a single QPI image is sufficient to extract the radius and the average refractive index.

  • To improve the solubility and oral bioavailability of erlotinib, a poorly water-soluble anticancer drug, solid self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) was developed using solid inert carriers such as dextran 40 and Aerosil® 200 (colloidal silica). The preliminary solubility of erlotinib in various oils, surfactants, and co-surfactants was determined. Labrafil M2125CS, Labrasol, and Transcutol HP were chosen as the oil, surfactant, and co-surfactant, respectively, for preparation of the SEDDS formulations. The ternary phase diagram was evaluated to show the self-emulsifying area.

  • In obesity, increased dietary lipids are taken up and transported by the lymphatic systems into the circulatory system. Increased fat accumulation results in impairments in the lymph fluid and lymph node (LN) atrophy. LNs filter the lymph fluid for foreign antigens to induce and control immune responses, and the alteration of this function during obesity remains underexplored. Here, the changes within the microarchitecture of mesenteric LNs (mLNs) during high levels of lipid transport were investigated, and the role of stromal cells in mice fed a high-fat diet for 10 weeks was assessed.

  • Performance evaluation of commercially available hydraulic energy nozzles (HCN/PB, HCN/PC, HCN/PD and HCN/PE) used in manually operated sprayer was conducted to identify the suitable nozzle for low velocity air-assisted sprayer. The discharge rate, droplet size, droplet size distribution pattern and spray distribution pattern of all the types of nozzles were measured with a pressure range of 0.1 to 0.4 MPa at an interval of 0.1 MPa. It was found that with the increase in pressure from 0.1 to 0.

  • Pesticides spray nozzle is an essential component to the sprayers of almost all kinds. Orifice tip of nozzle emits the spray solution into finer droplets of desired size and spectrum and sprayed on agricultural field crops. Hollowcone type nozzles fitted with circular cone orifices are very effective to spray finer droplets due to swirling action of swirl plate.

  • Spraying is one of the most effective and efficient techniques for applying spray liquid to protect crops. The nozzle is a major component in determining the amount of spray applied to an area, the uniformity of application, the coverage obtained on the target surface and the amount of potential drift. Hollow cone, solid cone and 3D action nozzles were selected for the study, which were widely used by the local farmers for cotton crop. The selected nozzles were evaluated in spray patternator for different operating parameters.

  • The objective of this study was to explore the gross morphological and histolmorphometric observations in the mammary gland of Boer graded local goats in India. The present study was conducted in adult lactating and nonlactating (n =6 each) Boer local she-goats. The mammary gland in both the group was a compound tubulo-alveolar gland surrounded by a connective tissue capsule. The alveoli were the principal secretory unit lined by simple cuboidal epithelium. In lactating animals, well developed alveoli, filled with secretions and lipid droplets were observed.

  • The presence of lipid droplets in the cells could be observed from the 20th day of culture. The size of lipid droplets was gradually increased after 60 days. Treatment of depleted nitrogen for 4 days resulted an increase in the accumulation of lipid. The intracellular lipid accumulation during phases of growth of the cell suspension under nitrogen-depleted conditions was also discussed.

  • The present work involves computational fluid dynamics (CFD) study of dust particle removal efficiency of a venturi scrubber operating in self-priming mode using ANSYS CFX. Titanium oxide (TiO2) particles having sizes of 1 micron have been taken as dust particles. CFD methodology to simulate the venturi scrubber has been first developed. The cascade atomization and breakup (CAB) model has been used to predict deformation of water droplets, whereas the Eulerian eLagrangian approach has been used to handle multiphase flow involving air, dust, and water.

If you use fingering weight yarn the simple stocking stitch section gives warm whilst still allowing the beauty of the lace border to show. Knitted top down the pattern can be scaled to use the most of your yarn, please read the re-sizing notes before starting. Materials Lace or Fingering weight yarn, 650m on 3.75mm needles using the standard sizing will produce a good sized shawl. See 'How much yarn?' for more details....

  • Breaking waves on the sea cause the ejection of many tiny droplets of seawater into the atmosphere. These droplets dry by evaporation leaving sea salt particles suspended in the air. Particles are also directly emitted by the bursting of air bubbles on sea surface Such particles are generally in the size range between 1 to 20µm. [19]. Whilst these particles are, in the main, rather coarse in size, a minor part of their mass is in particles small enough to have an appreciable atmospheric lifetime, which has been estimated as three days [20].

  • ESI greatly enhanced the ability to characterize protein and peptides by MS. ESI requires the sample of interest to be in solution- flow in to the ionization source region. To ionize the sample, high voltage is applied, result in the sample becoming positively or negatively charged; however, positive ionization is used primarily in the analysis proteins and peptides. As it exits the spray tip, the solution produces submicrometer-sized droplets containing both solute and analyte ions. The sample is then desorbed of solute prior to entering the analyzer region....
