To determine the effects of using unstructured clinical text in machine learning (ML) for prediction, early detection, and identification of sepsis. Materials and methods: PubMed, Scopus, ACM DL, dblp, and IEEE Xplore databases were searched. Articles utilizing clinical text for ML or natural language processing (NLP) to detect, identify, recognize, diagnose, or predict the onset, development, progress, or prognosis of systemic inflammatory response syndrome, sepsis, severe sepsis, or septic shock were included.

Early diagnosis and prompt antibiotic treatment are crucial to reducing morbidity and mortality of early-onset sepsis (EOS) in neonates. However, this strategy remains challenging due to non-specific clinical findings and limited facilities. Inappropriate antibiotics use is associated with ineffective therapy and adverse outcomes.

The objective of this study was to determine the causative bacteria and pattern of susceptibility to antibiotics in NICU of a tertiary care center, which in turn may help in implementation of empirical therapy. This prospective study was carried out in the department of microbiology, Govt. medical college Raigarh (c.g.) during Jun 2016- Jun 2017.

Neonatal sepsis refers to systemic and generalized infection of the newborn which is documented by a positive blood culture in the first four weeks of life. It is one of the four leading causes of neonatal mortality in India, to isolate bacterial pathogens in neonates with clinical suspicion of sepsis from blood samples and to study their antimicrobial susceptibility pattern. Blood samples collected from 1072 neonates with suspected sepsis were processed. Out of 1072 neonates 231(21.54%) were culture positive.

Neonatal sepsis is a major cause of mortality in developing countries. Accurate and quick diagnosis is difficult because of non-specific signs and symptoms, cultures being timeconsuming and other laboratory tests lack sensitivity and specificity. This study was designed to determine the sensitivity and specificity of Procalcitonin (PCT) levels, as a diagnostic marker of early onset neonatal sepsis (EONS). 150 neonates admitted to neonatal ward with signs suggestive of neonatal sepsis were recruited into the study.

Sepsis is a major cause of morbidity and mortality among neonates. Neonatal sepsis may be categorized as early-onset or late-onset. Clinical manifestations of neonatal sepsis are non-specific, therefore, clinical diagnosis of sepsis is difficult and laboratory help is required. Present study was done to evaluate three different methods in diagnosis of neonatal sepsis. 3 ml of venous blood was collected employing strict aseptic precautions from all babies admitted to the NICU in our hospital during the study period. 2 ml of blood was aseptically added to BacT/ ALERT PF culture bottle.

Sepsis in newborn infants has a high risk of morbidity and mortality. Despite advances in medicine, diagnosis of neonatal sepsis remains as a major challenge. The aim of this study is to unravel the role played by new network of biomarkers namely high mobility group box 1(HMGB1), thrombomodulin and heat shock protein (Hsp) 72 in addition to redox status in diagnosis of early onset neonatal sepsis before and after antibiotic therapy.

Whether lumbar punctures (LPs) should be performed routinely for term newborns suspected of having early onset neonatal sepsis (EONS) is subject to debate. It is unclear whether variations in performance of LPs for EONS may be associated with patient, hospital, insurance or regional factors.

Vasopressin is one of the most important physiological stress and shock hormones. Copeptin, a stable vasopressin precursor, is a promising sepsis marker in adults. In contrast, its involvement in neonatal diseases remains unknown.

Neonatal sepsis is one of the significant reasons for morbidity and mortality among the neonates in the developing countries. To determine the bacterial isolates and their antibiotic susceptibility pattern. Blood cultures were performed for all clinically suspected neonatal septicemia cases for 1 year. Identification of all pathogenic isolates was done by conventional methods followed by antibiotic sensitivity testing by Kirby bauer disk diffusion method. A total of 225 suspected for neonatal septicemia were included in this study. Among this 78(34.

: Recent National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) CG149 guidelines suggest considering performing a lumbar puncture (LP) to investigate for meningitis in early-onset sepsis in a neonate when a Creactive protein (CRP) level >10mg/L, but the evidence for this recommendation is poorly defined.

The diagnosis of neonatal sepsis is difficult because clinical manifestation is non-specific. Timely detection and treatment will help in decreasing mortality and morbidity. Blood culture is gold standard but the diagnosis is often retrospective. Thus there is a need for an alternative method which is more rapid, reliable and sensitive. This study was designed to determine the sensitivity, specificity, NPV, PPV and accuracy of hs-CRP, IL-6 and PCT levels, as a diagnostic marker of EONS. 206 neonates with sign and symptoms of sepsis admitted in NICU were included in this study.
