Efflux pump activity

Xem 1-10 trên 10 kết quả Efflux pump activity
  • This finding was further confirmed genotypically by polymerase chain reaction that showed the presence of efflux genes AcrA, AcrB, TolC and mdtk in these isolates. The ability of metformin to inhibit efflux activity was compared with the reference efflux pump inhibitors verapamil and ascorbic acid. Metformin was more active than ascorbic acid and less active than verapamil. Up to our knowledge, this is the first report that shows that metformin has an efflux pump-inhibiting activity in Klebsiella pneumoniae.

  • In this era of multi-drug resistance, efflux pump is one of the major problems which is increasingly concerned by scientists. The structure and mechanism activity of the efflux pumps on both bacteria and eurakyotes that are gradually being clarified.

  • Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an increasingly serious threat to global public health. The increase in antibiotic consumption is well evident which accelerates the AMR. The continuous dissemination of ‘multidrug-resistant’ (MDR) bacteria drastically reduces the efficacy of antibiotics and consequently increases the frequency of therapeutic failure. In MDR bacteria the over-expression of efflux pumps that expels antibiotics which contribute to the increased resistance by decreasing the intracellular concentration of antibiotics.

  • Bacterial multidrug resistance (MDR) constitutes a major hurdle in the treatment of infectious diseases worldwide. The present study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activities of synthetic p-toluenesulfonyl-hydrazinothiazoles against multidrug resistant Gram-negative bacteria.

  • Bacteria resist antibiotic action through several mechanisms, including target al., teration, drug inactivation, decreased permeability, and increased efflux. The aim of the study is detection of EP mediated MDR phenotypes in E. coli by using EB agar Cartwheel method.

  • Healthy seeds of different varieties of rice (PD 6, NDR 359, PD 16 and PS 5) and wheat (UP 262, UP 2628, PBW 175 and UP 2554) were germinated and fourteen days after germination, young rice/wheat seedlings were transferred to half strength of Hogland solution (pH 7.0) containing either recommended levels of Zn (0.05 mg Zn L-1 ) or no Zn for four days. For solidification of medium 0.4% w/v agar- agar was mixed in the Hogland solutions of both –Zn and +Zn. Prior to solidification, 11.25 mL of 0.1% bromothymol blue dye solution prepared in 60 % ethanol and was mixed to agar nutrient solution.

  • OprM, the outer membrane component of the MexAB-OprM multidrug efflux pump ofPseudomonas aeruginosa, hasbeenassumed to facilitate the export of antibiotics across the outer membrane of this organism. Here we purified to homogeneity the OprM protein, reconstituted it into lipo-somemembranes, and tested its channel activitybyusing the liposome swellingassay. Itwas demonstrated thatOprMis a channel-forming protein and exhibits the channel property that amino acids diffuse more efficiently than saccharides....

  • Multidrug resistance (MDR) in tumour cells is often caused by the overexpression of the plasma drug transporter P-glycoprotein (P-gp). This protein is an active efflux pump for chemotherapeutic drugs, natural products and hydro-phobicpeptides.Despite theadvancesof recent years,we still have an unclear view of the molecular mechanismby which P-gp transports such a wide diversity of compounds across themembrane.

  • The spontaneous acquisition of resistance to a variety of unrelated cytotoxic compounds has important implications in medical treatment of infectious diseases and anticancer therapy. In the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiaethis pheno-menon is caused by overexpression of membrane efflux pumps and is called pleiotropic drug resistance. We have found that allelic forms of the genes for the transcription activators Pdr1p and Pdr3p, designated PDR1-12and PDR3-33,respectively, mediate resistance to diazaborine....

  • The drug concentration inside multidrug-resistant cells is the outcome of competition between the active export of drugs by drug efflux pumps, such as P-glycoprotein (Pgp), and the passive permeation of drugs across the plasma membrane. Thus, reversal of multidrug resistance (MDR) can occur either by inhibition of the efflux pumps or by acceleration of the drug per-meation.
