CuAlS2 thin films were deposited by a dip coating technique at room temperature. The X-ray energy dispersive (EDAX) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the deposited CuAlS2 thin film is nearly stoichiometric and possesses a tetragonal unit cell structure.

Ultrathin silicon nitride SiNx membrane suspended on a silicon wafer is a popular twodimensional platform in MEMS applications. The unsupported membrane has a low thermal conductivity, is electrically insulated, and very robust against mechanical impact. Remarkably thin, it is difficult to fabricate and manipulate. Recently equipped with a dual chamber system for plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) and reactive ion etching, we calibrate it to deposit silicon nitride Si3N4, silicon dioxide SiO2, and to dry etch these materials.

We experimentally investigate the carrier transport in back-gated graphene ribbons. The ribbons are monolayer graphene formed by the chemical vapor deposition process and transferred on the SiO2/Si substrate. Electrical measurements show that two categories of electrical behavior are distinguished, respectively, linear and nonlinear.

Proton-conducting polymer electrolyte films were prepared by dissolving NH4I salt in polyethylene oxide/methylcellulose (PEO/MC) blend polymers using the solution cast technique. The semi-crystalline nature of the sample was identified from the X-ray diffraction (XRD) pattern. The surface morphology on the electrical conductivity was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

In this work, screening functions of Ichimaru and Utsumi, Farid et al. and Sarkar et al. are employed along with the Hartree and Taylor functions to study the relative influence of the exchange and correlation effect. The Ni-Cr liquid alloys are studied as a function of their composition at three different temperatures (T=800K, 1000K, 1200K). The present finding of electrical resistivity agrees within 2-12% with experimental findings when the H dielectric function is employed.

The metallic character of the electronic transport in both asymmetric and symmetric ZGNRs has been established: the current has a semiconductor behavior, with negative differential resistance (NDR) effect. Symmetric SW defect, as a most unfavorable SW defect type for electric conductance, remarkably reduces the current values, but does not change the character of conductivity in both the asymmetric and symmetric ZGNRs. NDR has been explained by the SW defect-induced alteration of the number of frontier molecular orbitals entering bias windows.

Membranes have proteins that mediate and regulate the transport of metabolites, macromolecules, and ions. Hormones and many other biological signal molecules and regulatory agents exert their effects via interactions with membranes. Photosynthesis, electron transport, oxidative phosphorylation, muscle contraction, and electrical activity all depend on membranes and membrane proteins. What are the properties and characteristics of biological membranes that account for their broad influence on cellular processes and transport?
