In this report, we develop a low-cost cyclic voltammetry platform for electrochemical analyses based on the LMP91000 integrated circuit (IC). The proposed system can be suitable to detect chemicals of interest in food safety or biology. The system includes three main blocks: the electrodes, electrochemical measuring circuit, and data acquisition. An algorithm was also built to process and display the data on the screen.

A facile hydrothermal-aided process is demonstrated to prepare an analcime 3-dimensional (3D) network using recycled aluminum foil as an aluminum source without using an organic template. The prepared material was characterized by different techniques. An electrode/electrolyte interface with a 3D network structure allows for better contact and improves the kinetics of the charge transfer.

The increased water contamination caused by heavy metal ions has negative consequences for human beings. The majority of these metal ions are incredibly poisonous, nonbiodegradable, and bioaccumulative. Therefore, the detection of these hazardous heavy metal ions is crucial in the current situation.

Surface modification of interdigitated DNA sensors by polypyrrole nanowires and gold nanoparticles has been analyzed systematically. Polypyrrole nanowires with diameter of 200 nm and length of 5 mm were electrochemically synthesized on the gold surface of interdigitated electrodes and subsequently decorated with 20 nm gold nanoparticles.

Codeine is an opium alkaloid with a great potential of abuse among opioid consumers. Detection of codeine is a routine procedure in the military and government of some countries for personnel recruitment. Therefore, a specific, selective, and easy to use method would be an important improvement in such detection procedures. According to previous reports, short single-stranded DNA or RNA sequences with high affinity and specificity to their targets, aptamers, could be used for designing an accurate and specific biosensor for codeine.

A simple and sensitive modified electrode was fabricated with graphene via the drop-casting method and applied for the electrochemical detection of Sudan IV. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) was used to investigate the electrochemical behaviors of Sudan IV in phosphate buffer solution (PBS). The experimental conditions such as determining medium, scan rate, and accumulation time were optimized for the determination of Sudan IV.

Single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and chitosan composite (chitosan*CNT) based sensors were developed as DNA biosensors, and then they were applied for electrochemical investigation of the interaction between the anticancer drug mitomycin C (MC) and DNA. The oxidation signals of MC and guanine were monitored before and after the interaction process by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The DPV results were in good agreement with those of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

For the first time a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based sensor for tyrosinase is described. This sensor is based on the electropolymerization of scopoletin or o-phenylenediamine in the presence of tyrosinase from mushrooms, which has a high homology to the human enzyme. The template was removed either by treatment with proteinase K or by alkaline treatment. The measuring signal was generated either by measuring the formation of a product by the target enzyme or by evaluation of the permeability of the redox marker ferricyanide.

In this work, a very simple, rapid, cheap, sensitive, and selective polymer film-modified electrode for vanillin determination in commercial food products was developed via electrochemical polymerization and overoxidation of pyrrole. The formation of both poly(pyrrole) and overoxidized poly(pyrrole) films on a glassy carbon electrode surface was characterized by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Under optimized conditions, the calibration graph comprises two linear segments of 0.032–1.500 µmol L−1 and 3.00–150.

A highly sensitive and simple method based on an ionic liquid/ex situ bismuth film-modified single-use pencil graphite electrode (IL/Bi/PGE) was offered for the electrochemical detection of cefixime (CEF) for the first time. The synergistic effects of the ionic liquid and bismuth film combination as the surface modifier remarkably improved the electrochemical response of the modified sensor. Anodic oxidation of CEF was observed at 0.9 V vs. Ag/AgCl/3 M KCl as one well-defined irreversible oxidation peak.

An enzymeless electrochemical sensor for detection of low amounts of H2O2 with the aid of Ag nanoparticles supported on conducting poly(vinylferrocene) (PVF) film was developed. Experimental results revealed that contribution of Ag nanoparticles led to remarkable improvement by means of reduction potential and reduction current. Influence of experimental parameters (i.e. polymeric film thickness, concentration of Ag precursor, immersion time in precursor solution, reduction time, and reduction potential) were investigated.

The paper describes a novel dip-and-gauge hand-held sensor device for the rapid, cost-effective, and on-site detection of bisphenol A and arsenic in drinking water samples. Different working electrode diameters ranging from 1.5 mm to 4 mm were designed and fabricated to construct a new electrochemical biosensor. The sensor was employed for the chronoamperometric detection of bisphenol A and voltammetric determination of arsenic in drinking water samples. Bisphenol A measurements resulted in a detection limit of 10 ng mL−1 with a linear range of 0–4000 ng mL−1.
