Ebook "Solid state gas sensors – Industrial application" focuses on what the research community labels as solid state gas sensors, where a gas directly changes electrical properties of a solid, which serves as a primary signal for the transducer. Therefore electrochemical, mass/viscoelastic, optical and calorimetric effects are out of the scope of this topic and have not been included.

This paper presents a proposed CP system for pipelines, utilizing an intelligent IoT system. The sensor nodes of the system designed based on the STM32 microcontroller perform the measurement of voltages from the reference electrodes, process the signal as well as perform wireless communication about the control stations via LoRa (Long Range Radio) communication.

The reasonable shifts in FT-IR and NMR spectral signals of the complexes with respect to the free ligand confirm good coordination of the Schiff-base ligand with the metal through imine nitrogen and oxygen atoms of Schiff base moiety. The Schiff-base ligand and the complexes were screened for antimicrobial activity and fluorescent behaviour. From the analytical and spectral data, the stoichiometry was found to be 1:2 for all the complexes. An octahedral structure was proposed. All the complexes were found to be active against bacteria and fungi.

Single-walled carbon nanotube (CNT) and chitosan composite (chitosan*CNT) based sensors were developed as DNA biosensors, and then they were applied for electrochemical investigation of the interaction between the anticancer drug mitomycin C (MC) and DNA. The oxidation signals of MC and guanine were monitored before and after the interaction process by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The DPV results were in good agreement with those of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS).

For the first time a molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP)-based sensor for tyrosinase is described. This sensor is based on the electropolymerization of scopoletin or o-phenylenediamine in the presence of tyrosinase from mushrooms, which has a high homology to the human enzyme. The template was removed either by treatment with proteinase K or by alkaline treatment. The measuring signal was generated either by measuring the formation of a product by the target enzyme or by evaluation of the permeability of the redox marker ferricyanide.

Herein, an adsorptive stripping linear sweep voltammetric technique was described to determine spiramycin, a macrolide antibiotic, using a carboxylic multiwalled glassy carbon electrode modified with carbon nanotubes. The main principle of the analytical methodology proposed was based on the preconcentration of spiramycin by open-circuit accumulation of the macrolide onto the modified electrode surface. As a result of the adsorption affinity of spiramycin to the modified surface, the sensitivity of the glassy carbon electrode was significantly increased for the determination of spiramycin.

2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is an auxinic herbicide used to control broadleaf weeds. It is also a threatening factor for not only aquatic life but also human health due to its genotoxicity and endocrine disruptive property. Herein, the interaction between 2,4-D and double stranded DNA was investigated by using single-use pencil graphite electrodes (PGE) in combination with electrochemical techniques.

In this study, the electrochemical properties of desloratadine, which is in the second generation antihistamines group, were determined by bismuth film electrode (BiFE) in aqueous and aqueous/surfactant solutions. This compound gave an irreversible and diffusion-controlled reduction peak at about –1.65 V by cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the addition of cationic surfactants (cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) increased the reduction current signal of desloratadine, while anionic (sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) and nonionic (Tween 80) surfactants were found to have an adverse effect.

Alterations of bioelectrical properties of cells and tissues are known to function as wide-ranging signals during development, regeneration and wound-healing in several species. The Drosophila follicle-cell epithelium provides an appropriate model system for studying the potential role of electrochemical signals, like intracellular pH (pHi ) and membrane potential (Vmem), during development.

During Drosophila oogenesis, the follicular epithelium differentiates into several morphologically distinct follicle-cell populations. Characteristic bioelectrical properties make this tissue a suitable model system for studying connections between electrochemical signals and the organisation of the cytoskeleton.

Bioelectrical signals are known to be involved in the generation of cell and tissue polarity as well as in cytoskeletal dynamics. The epithelium of Drosophila ovarian follicles is a suitable model system for studying connections between electrochemical gradients, patterns of cytoskeletal elements and axial polarity.

This study we attempt to (i) discover a better performing electrode material to minimize the internal resistance of the MFC, (ii) modify the anodic electrode spacing to determine a design that better supports the electrochemical activity of acting bacteria, and (iii) reduce losses during the electron transfer process (from the electron donor at the anode to the electron acceptor at the cathode) via optimization of the cathode oxygen supply rate and the external resistance using polarization analysis.

The ultimate goal of this paper is to develop derivatives of ferroceneservingas an electrochemical probe that would enhance the performance of immunosensor. An immunosensor based on polypyrrole-streptavidin layer as platform for immobilization of biotinylatedferrocene and antibodies was developed. The measurement of redox signal of ferrocene was analyzed by differential pulse voltammetry (DPV) method and underlined a variation of redox properties upon the antigen interaction.

For the first time, the detection of DNA sequences, related to HIV (found in AIDS patients), using Methylene Blue (MB) as the redox indicator was performed. The voltametric signals have been investigated on bared chitosan (CS) modified; probe immobilized (DNA single strand) and target-hybridized (DNA double strand) electrodes sequentially by means of Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) and Square Wave Voltammetry (SWV). The response of hybridization between the probe and perfectly complementary, double-base mismatch, single-base mismatch of analyzed targets were clearly identified.

The unique practical properties of adsorption have promoted its extensive use in genetic analysis. The disadvantages of adsorption with respect to covalent immobilization are mainly that (1) nucleic acids may be readily desorbed from the substrate, and (2) base moieties may be unavailable for hybridization if they are bonded to the substrate in multiple sites [34]. However, the electrochemical detection strategy based on the intrinsic oxidation of DNA requires the DNA to be adsorbed in close contact with the electrochemical substrate by multi-point attachment.
