Difficult airway may result in significant morbidity and mortality. Proficient airway evaluation, therefore, is one of the key elements in the safe conduct of anesthesia. A three-dimensional (3D) printing model was recently introduced for medical application.

This paper presents a numerical approach at the mesoscale for the mechanical behavior of TRC composite under tensile loading. A 2-D finite element model was constructed in ANSYS MECHANICAL software by using the codes. The experimental results on basalt TRC composite from the literature were used as input data in the numerical model.

The basement of a high-rise building is the optimal space for technical systems and parking. However, the construction in narrow urban areas usually has many unstable hazards. In this study, a numerical model has been established and calibrated using the finite element method on Plaxis 2D software that allowed well control of the design and construction processes of the Madison Building basement.

In this way, we experimentally broaden out beyond conventional deliberative formats of participation, in terms of ‘representative’ mini-publics and expert elicitation, to also engage with activist, grassroots innovator and consumer-based models of participation and their associated publics. Second, in doing so we develop an explicitly sociotechnical approach, emphasising the oftenunacknowledged social arrangements that are co-produced with the technical elements of energy systems.

Femoral varus deformities complicating the realignment of the quadriceps muscles are frequently associated with medial patellar luxation (MPL) in dogs. Therefore, distal femoral osteotomy (DFO) is recommended in dogs affected with severe MPL and a distal femoral varus deformity.

Lake sediments are very useful for providing high-resolution records of geomagnetic field variations, especially for the Holocene period. We present high-resolution paleomagnetic records from three cores (KCL12P1, P2, and P3) recovered from Küçükçekmece Lagoon, located at the northern shoreline of the Sea of Marmara, Turkey. The cores were subjected to a comprehensive paleomagnetic and rock magnetic investigation using oriented samples.

Gravity data inversion or interpretation requires the removal of the gravitational effects of the a priori known geologic and/or morphologic features within the Earth’s system to model and reveal the remaining signals of the unknown anomalous subsurface density distributions. The Bouguer gravity anomalies reduced by the normal gravitational field of the Earth and the gravitational attraction of the topographic masses above the sea level are frequently used in geophysics for this purpose.

: Spatiotemporal changes in the chromatin accessibility landscape are essential to cell differentiation, development, health, and disease. The quest of identifying regulatory elements in open chromatin regions across different tissues and developmental stages is led by large international collaborative efforts mostly focusing on model organisms, such as ENCODE.

Improved methods are needed to model CRISPR screen data for interrogation of genetic elements that alter reporter gene expression readout. We create MAUDE (Mean Alterations Using Discrete Expression) for quantifying the impact of guide RNAs on a target gene’s expression in a pooled, sorting-based expression screen. MAUDE quantifies guide-level effects by modeling the distribution of cells across sorting expression bins.

Deep mutational scanning (DMS) enables multiplexed measurement of the effects of thousands of variants of proteins, RNAs, and regulatory elements. Here, we present a customizable pipeline, DiMSum, that represents an end-to-end solution for obtaining variant fitness and error estimates from raw sequencing data.

In this method, the internal DOFs are separated from the boundary DOFs, and decomposed onto a basis of static modes, and a basis of fixed interface modes [Craig et Bampton, 1968]. The use of a reduced basis for the fixed interface modes makes it possible to reduce the size of the system to be solved, and therefore to save the computational time compared to a classical finite element computation involving the complete system.

The aim of this work was to strengthen the evidence of using micro diatom frustule as a promising candidate for drug loading materials for both hydrophobic and hydrophilic drug models. The morphological, surface elemental composition of diatomite powder, a raw source of micro diatom frustules and purified diatomite to collect micro diatom frustule were investigated.

Maintaining landscape connectivity through identifying movement corridors is the most recommended conservation strategy to reduce the negative impacts of habitat loss and isolation. The basis of most connectivity modelling approaches for modelling corridors is that species choose movement pathways based on the same criteria they used to choose habitats. However, species behave differently in using landscape elements for moving than for selecting habitat. In other words, suitability of a given landscape feature may differ between moving and habitat use stages.

The model was validated using published experimental data and subsequently used to simulate three well-documented real-world concussive head injury accidents. Results showed that the brain stresses and strains predicted using the current version (V2.0) of the UCDBTM correspond well with values for concussion reported in literature.

The current work investigates the effect of the nodal mass on the macroscopic mechanical behavior of nanoporous metals using the Finite Element Method. A nodal corrected beam modeling concept is introduced that allows local incorporation of the effective elastoplastic mechanical behavior of the nodal mass in the nodal area of a representative volume element (RVE).
