  • An experiment was conducted on bioefficacy of newer and biorational insecticides against shoot and fruit borer on okra. Efficacy of insecticides tested against Earias spp on okra indicated that the minimum per cent infestation of shoot and fruit borer was found in the treatment of indoxacarb (1.36%) followed by spinosad (1.75%), emamectin benzoate (2.57%) and fipronil (2.98%).   • The study was conducted to evaluate the two sprayers for bioefficacy was carried out in cotton (Bt) and pigeonpea at the farmer’s field, Raichur during 2017-18. The insecticide used [dinotefuran (osheen)] was solution with a recommended dose 150 g 500 l-1 . The chemical used for spraying the pigeonpea crop was emamectin benzoate (ASTRA). The chemical was mixed with water at a proportion of 100 g 500 l-1 . The insects were reduced from pre counting as the number of days increased after the spraying.   • An interactive survey was conducted during 2016-17 to document insecticide usage pattern adopted by the farmers of Karnataka state to manage polyphagous pest Helicoverpa armigera in different host crops growing areas. Among the different group of insecticides the most popular amongst the farmers were emamectin benzoate 5 SG (39.44 %), rynaxypyr 18.5 SC (27.22 %) and profenophos 50 EC (23.89 %).   • Experiment was conducted to study the effect of eCO2 and eTemp on the on the larval and pupal developmental periods of S. litura after exposed to sublethal concentrations of insecticide viz., spinosad, emamectin benzoate, thiodicarb and monocrotophos.   • Shoot and fruit borer (Leucinodes orbonalis G.) is one of the most destructive pests in brinjal in South Asia. Studies on effectiveness of different chemical insecticides against shoot and fruit borer causes 20 – 60% yield reduction was evaluated under field condition at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Thoothakudi during kharif from July 2018 to October 2018. Shoot and fruit infestation were minimum in Spinosad 45 SC treated plots with the per cent of 9.94 in shoots and 11.71 in fruits when compared to the untreated check (30.99%).

  • Relative efficacy of different biorational insecticides against major insect pest on brinjal was evaluated in field condition at the Horticulture Farm of Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam, Thoothakudi during Kharif from July to October.   • A field experiment was conducted during Kharif 2015-16 in central research farm of Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture Technology and Sciences, Allahabad to evaluate the field efficacy of certain chemicals against shoot and fruit borer on Brinjal. The occurrence of Shoot and Fruit Borer commenced from 34th standard week (August fourth week) with an average population of 0.90 larvae/plant.
