In ebook "The chemistry of the catalyzed hydrogenation of carbon monoxide" the energy shock of the early seventies has been healthy and of great conse­ quences in chemistry. Large amounts of research money have been put to work since, and our knowledge of the possibilities and limitations of coal-based chemistry has increased enormously. During several years it appeared inap­ propriate to write a monograph about a topic which was in the midst of such an impetuous development.

In this paper a Pooled Ordinary Least Square model has been considered for some Southeast Asia countries in order to study the direct effects of world oilprice shocks and real interest rate on inflation. Our results canbe summarized as follows: For seven Southeast Asian countries including Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines and Singapore, world crude oil price and real interest rate both have statistical significant negative impact on inflation.

White-light coronagraphic images of Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) observed by SOHO/LASCO C2 have been used to estimate the density jump along the whole front of two CME-driven shocks. The two events are different in that the first one was a ‘‘radio-loud’’ fast CME, while the second one was a ‘‘radio quiet’’ slow CME. From the compression ratios inferred along the shock fronts, we estimated the Alfve´n Mach numbers for the general case of an oblique shock.
