English majors’ reading skills

The present study aims to elucidate whether extensive reading enhances students’ reading skills of the second year English majors in Hanoi Metropolitan University. An extensive reading program lasted for ten weeks. The design of the study was experimental research which used quantitative approach.

This study was conducted to find out the opinions of lecturers and students about the teaching-learning contents in the textbook "Active Skills for Reading 4" used to teach Reading Skills level 6 to third-year students majoring in English at Hanoi Open University. The author used a mixed research method, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods to analyze data.

The reading comprehension skill is considered as one of the four fundamental language skills that an EFL learner must perform. Actually, it is not an easy skill since most of learners have many reading issues. The purpose of this present work is to investigate on these reading difficulties that grade 10 students at the Asian International Highschool face, and to identify their reading problems and the reasons behind their weaknesses in performing the reading task.
