  • Demography and environmental adaptation can affect the global distribution of genetic variants and possibly the distribution of disease. Population heterozygosity of single nucleotide polymorphisms has been shown to decrease strongly with distance from Africa and this has been attributed to the effect of serial founding events during the migration of humans out of Africa.

  • Within the past two decades, Ethiopia has achieved one of the fastest reductions of open defecation worldwide. This change can be attributed to the implementation of a national sanitation strategy that focused on facilitating community demand for latrine adoption and use of basic self-constructed latrines but less on other preconditions of hygienic sanitation.

  • The purpose of this study is to explore factors affecting behavior of students consuming environmentally friendly products. Based on literature review, the authors propose five hypotheses covering the influence of three attributes of Theory of Planned Behavior and extend this theory with two factors including environmental concern and price. Data collected from student survey through both online and offline were analyzed to test the proposed hypotheses.

  • This unique cross-border study documented metal contamination of drinking water and locally grown vegetables near mining activities in Zambia and DRC, with the contamination being worse in DRC. The higher pollution observed in DRC compared to Zambia must largely be attributed to differences in environmental governance between the two countries.

  • Based on the studies of researchers in general and as the students in specific, we decided to divide problems into two types which are internal and external causes. The internal causes consist of matters that come from students themselves such as their own ability to deal with a foreign language or the things that give them motivation to learn.

  • Environmental variation in the amount of resources available to populations challenge individuals to optimize the allocation of those resources to key fitness functions. This coordination of resource allocation relative to resource availability is commonly attributed to key nutrient sensing gene pathways in laboratory model organisms, chiefly the insulin/TOR signaling pathway. However, the genetic basis of diet-induced variation in gene expression is less clear.

  • Coilia nasus (C. nasus) is an important anadromous fish species that resides in the Yangtze River of China, and has high ecological and economical value. However, wild resources have suffered from a serious reduction in population, attributed to the over-construction of water conservancy projects, overfishing, and environmental pollution.

  • The wastewater generated from sterilization, condensation and hydrocycloning of palm oil fruits during milling activities is referred to as Palm oil mill effluent (POME). It shows the presence of residue oil and suspended solids, due to its high biological oxygen demand (BOD), low pH and colloidal nature, its potentials to pollute both ecological niches have been attributed to the most intricate environmental turmoil for the 21st century.

  • Concerned by the environmental and economic threats posed by fossil fuels as the source of energy, this study uses the case of Nigeria economy to understand the extent to which economic growth and carbon emissions matters for renewable energy demands. Exploring both the linear and nonlinear ARDL modelling framework, the main empirical findings are that the amplified responsiveness of the consequence of climate change has led to increase in the demand for renewable energy particularly when the underlying source of the emissions is attributable to activities in the transport sector.

  • Breeding for high yield crops require information on nature and magnitude of variation in the available material, relationship of yield with other agronomic characters and the degree of environmental influence on the expression of these component characters. Since grain yield in rice is quantitative in nature and polygenically controlled, effective yield improvement and simultaneous improvement of yield components are imperative.

  • Sex manipulation is attributed to alter the ratio of male to female flowers within the individuals. A wide range of variation in sex forms ranging from primitive hermaphrodite to gynoecious advanced sex form is observed in cucurbitaceous vegetable crops. Sex expression in cucurbitaceae family is regulated by environmental, genetic and hormonal factors. In general, female sex expression is promoted by low temperature and short photoperiod, which may influence the level of endogeneous hormones (ethylene, auxin and GA) which in turn influence the sex expression.

  • The development of fruits without fertilization is known as parthenocarpy. Parthenocarpy improves the fruit quality, processing attributes, production and productivity of vegetable crops like tomato, cucumber, watermelon etc. Absence of seeds can enhances the shelf life of the fruits, allowing a better conservation, fruit set in adverse climatic conditions, early and offseason production of vegetable crops. Therefore, it is important to ensure yield stability regardless of environmental conditions.

The analysis of variance indicated presence of significant variability among the genotypes for all the characters. Moderate GCV and higher PCV values indicated presence of substantial genetic variability and less environmental influence for average dry fruit weight, dry fruit yield per plant, and capsaicin content.
