Lignocellulosic biomass is a potential material source for ethanol production. Particularly, the sugarcane bagasse (SCB) coming from the sugar waste of the refinery is very rich in lignocellulose that can be biochemically transformed into ethanol. However, its recalcitrant structure necessitates a pretreatment step to break up the lignocellulosic matrix, thus improving the accessibility of hydrolytic enzymes to carbohydrates for sugar production.

The aim of the present study was to determine the effect of high temperature stress (HT) and to evaluate the protective role of fungicide pretreatment against HT stress in tomato leaves. The oxidative stress was triggered under HT stress through an increase in the content of malondialdehyde (MDA) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Also, it caused a decline in photosynthetic pigments and enhanced the proline in tomato. However, the activities of catalase (CAT; EC 1.11.1.6), peroxidase (POX; EC 1.11.1.7), and glutathione S-transferase (GST; EC.2.5.1.

Cellulosimicrobium sp. MP1 was isolated from termites gut, showing ability to biosynthesize cellulase including endoglucanase, exoglucanase, -glucosidase and xylanase and therefore is potential candidate for enzymatic saccharification of lignocellulosic material. The aim of this study is to investigate the ability of crude enzyme produced from Cellulosimicrobium sp. MP1 to hydrolyse the abundant lignocellulosic material in Viet Nam as straw.

The aim of the research was isolation of efficient cellulolytic bacterial strains from soil samples and comparative assessment of their cellulolytic potential on untreated and pre-treated cellulosic wastes namely sugarcane bagasse, groundnut shell, corn cob, and vegetable peel so as to determine a suitable substrate pre-treatment for cellulolytic enzyme production. The substrates were pretreated with 0.5% NaOH (alkali treatment) and 0.

The present study demonstrated the pretreatment of rice straw using deep eutectic solvent (DES), choline chloride:urea and its comparison with acid and alkaline pretreatment. At a solid loading of 10%, choline chloride (ChCl):urea (1:2) was very effective in lignin extraction from rice straw at 45 °C.

The present study was focused on the biodegradation of pine needles by the production of hydrolytic enzymes viz. cellulase, xylanase, laccase as well as reducing sugars production w.r.t optimization of moisture (Basal salt media) ratio for the newly isolated white rot fungi Phanerochaete sp. S7, Armillaria sp. K3 and Phanerochaete chrysosporium [NCIM 1197] were optimized under solid state fermentation and maximum of cellulase (52.27 U/g) with specific activity of 2.10 was observed in P.

Pine waste generated as needle biomass is a serious threat to our environment in Himachal Pradesh in terms of recalcitrance of soil as well as forest fire. According to forest department, 22% of total forest in state is fire prone due to pine trees abundance and their needles being rich in antimicrobial compounds are not degraded down easily in nature.

Substantial evidence has shown that most cases of memory impairment are associated with increased neuroinflammation and oxidative stress. In this study, the potential of a standardised Andrographis paniculata aqueous extract (APAE) to reverse neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment induced by lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was examined in vivo. Rats were treated with APAE (50, 100, 200, and 400 mgkg 1 , p.o.) for 7 consecutive days prior to LPS (1 mgkg 1 , i.p.)-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive impairment.

Biochemical parameters (soluble protein contents, and peroxidase, catalase, and superoxide dismutase activity) were also analysed. Regardless of PEG pretreatment, calluses subjected to salt stress had less fresh weight than the control; however, less necrosis was observed in PEGpretreated callus cultures than in non pretreated cultures subjected to the same salt concentration.

The effects of salicylic acid (SA) on leaf rolling under osmotic stress in Ctenanthe setosa (Roscoe) Eichler were evaluated. The leaves were pretreated with SA, paclobutrazol (PAC), and antioxidant enzyme inhibitors for 15 h and then kept in polyethylene glycol (PEG) for 4 h to promote osmotic stress.

Ultraviolet B (UV-B) irradiation has an adverse effect on plant cells because it causes the generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). This is scavenged by some endogenous defense systems. In this study, the activities of H2O2- detoxifying antioxidant enzymes in 4 barley cultivars pretreated with high temperature or NaCl before UV-B irradiation were investigated.

This fungus could grow well on rice straw under solid state fermentation. Pretreatment of rice straw using L. lactinea CP9 was based on the activity of fungal lignin peroxidase and laccase. After 20 days, the residual enzyme activity was of 21.6 and 18.4 nkat/g material for lignin peroxidase and laccase, respectively. Pretreatment significantly improved the quality of straw, as lignin loss of 38% while cellulosic fibers were comparatively well preserved.

Duodenase is a 29-kDa serine endopeptidase that displays selective trypsin- and chymotrypsin-like substrate specificity. This enzyme has been localized to epitheliocytes of Brunner’s glands, and as described here, to mast cells within the intestinal mucosa and lungworm-infected lung, implying an important additional role in inflammation and tissue remodelling. In primary cultures of pulmonary artery fibroblasts, duodenase induced a concentration-dependent increase in [3H]thymidine incorporation with a maximal effect observed at 30 nM.

Nearly all textile materials are colored after fabrication and before final finishing. The coloration of fibers and fabrics through dyeing is an integral part of textile manufacturing. This book discusses in detail several emerging topics on textile dyeing. The pretreatment of textiles prior to dyeing is addressed by several authors. Menezes and Choudhari present chemical alternatives to traditional pretreatment, while Tavcer discusses enzyme pretreatment procedures.

Introduction: The advancement of technologies was marvelous during the past half century; new analytical instruments have been being invented and improved. About 30 years ago, thin-layer chromatography (TLC) was being used most widely for detection and identification of drugs and poisons. Around that time, the use of GC/MS started in the field of medicine. Therefore, an ideal procedure for analysis of drugs and poisons was considered to be the screening by TLC, followed by the final identification and quantitation by GC/MS.
