Coordination-driven self-assembly of nickel (II) ions with equimolar amounts of 1, 10 phenanthroline, and benzoic acid was used to create homonuclear nickel (II) MOF-type supramolecule. Single crystal X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, photoluminescence measurement, FT-IR, UV-visible spectroscopy, and nitrogen physisorption measurement were used to characterize the compound. The single crystal X-ray diffraction study reveals that the synthesized compound is twodimensional with pores in the structure.

A laboratory method for the acid-free synthesis of S-nitrosothiols (RSNO) from NaNO2 and thiols in aqueous buffer of neutral pH is reported. Equimolar amounts of NaNO2 and thiol are added to a 100-µM Na 4EDTA-containing Na2HPO4 buffer (100 mM, pH 7.4). Samples are set into liquid nitrogen for 1 min and then thawed to room temperature or in an ice bath. Dependent upon the RSNO, repetition of the procedure may be required. This method may be of particular importance when the classical acid-based method fails or releases harmful gases such as H2S.

The Cl replacement reactions of 4-fluorobenzyl(N/O)spirocyclotriphosphazene (2) with excess monoamines led to the formation of 4-fluorobenzylspiro(N/O)tetraaminocyclotriphosphazenes (2a–2d). The partly substituted dispiro 3b and dispiro 3c and fully substituted trispirocyclotriphosphazenes (trans 4a, cis 4c, 4d, and 4e) were obtained, respectively, from the reactions of 2 with one equimolar and two equimolar amounts of diamines, aminoalcohol, and diols.

DNA pooling constitutes a cost effective alternative in genome wide association studies. In DNA pooling, equimolar amounts of DNA from different individuals are mixed into one sample and the frequency of each allele in each position is observed in a single genotype experiment.

Recently we have shown that ferrica-hydroxyhaem bound tohaemoxygenase-1 canbe converted to ferrous verdohaem by approximately an equimolar amount ofO2in the absence of exogenous electrons [Sakamoto,H.,Omata,Y.,Palmer, G.,and Noguchi, M. (1999)J. Biol. Chem.274,18196– 18200]. Contrary to those results, other studies have claimed that the conversion requires both O2andanelectron.
