This experiment aimed to synthesize isoamyl acetate and understand preparing ester’s mechanism. The test compounds underwent reflux, distillation, extraction and vacuum filtration. Through an acid, acetic acid could serve as a substrate. This could easily be attacked by isoamyl alcohol, thus producing isoamyl acetate.

The expression of the major protein kinase C substrate MARCKS (myristoylatedalanine-richCkinase substrate) is controlled by the stability of its mRNA. While the MARCKS mRNA is long living in quiescent fibroblasts (t1/2¼14 h), its half-life time is drastically reduced (t1/2¼2 h) in cells treated with phorbol esters to activate protein kinase C (PKC) or treatedwith growth factors. In a first step to study the underlying mechanism we identified both acis-element on the MARCKS mRNA and the cor-responding trans-acting factors. ...

The c-jungene encodes the protein Jun, a component of the essential transcription factor, AP1. Jun/AP-1 occupies a central position in signal transduction pathways as it is responsible for the induction of a number of genes in response to growth promoters. However, the exact mecha-nisms leading to an enhanced expression of the c-jun gene itself during proliferation, differentiation, cell growth and development are not fully understood. Cell culture studies have given some insight in the mechanisms involved in the up-regulation of c-jun expression by UV irradiation and phorbol esters. ...

Inhibition of the mitochondrial adenine nucleotide translocator (ANT) by long-chain acyl-CoA esters has been proposed to contribute to cellular dys-function in obesity and type 2 diabetes by increasing formation of reactive oxygen species and adenosine via effects on the coenzyme Q redox state, mitochondrial membrane potential (Dw) and cytosolic ATP concentrations.

Protein kinase Ce (PKCe) is activated by thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH), a regulator of pituitary function in rat pituitary GH4C1 cells. We analyzed the downstream mechanism after PKCe activation. Exposure of GH4C1 cells to TRH or a phorbol ester increased the phosphorylation of three p52 proteins (p52a, p52b and p52c) and decreased the phosphoryla-tion of destrin and cofilin.

In plant secondary metabolism, b-acetal ester-dependent acyltransferases, such as the 1-O-sinapoyl-b-glucose:l-malate sinapoyltransferase (SMT; EC 2.3.1.92), are homologous to serine carboxypeptidases. Mutant analyses and modeling of Arabidopsis SMT (AtSMT) have predicted amino acid residues involved in substrate recognition and catalysis, confirming the main functional elements conserved within the serine carboxypeptidase pro-tein family.
