These structure-dependent effects could derive from induced shifts in microbiota composition that differed between DM18(low-DB) pectin and the other pectins. T-cell-modulating effects were not short-chain-fatty aciddependent, but rather through an increase in Aryl-hydrocarbon-receptor-activating components.

Esterification of organic acids with alcohols under mild conditions in high yields using graphite oxide, a readily available and inexpensive material, as an effective reagent is described. Esters are a class of compounds widely distributed in nature. Esters encompass a large family of organic compounds with broad applications in medicine, biology, chemistry, and industry as plasticizers, solvents, perfumes, and flavor chemicals and also as precursors for a gamut of pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and other fine chemicals.

Reaction experiments were also conducted in identical conditions in the presence of catalysts recovered after the reaction. The results indicated that sustainable activity could be achieved in the presence of these spent catalysts with activity losses around 10%. Evaluation of characterization analyses conducted with fresh and spent catalysts showed that the activity loss of SBA15-S catalysts had merely been due to STA leaching, whereas deformation of pore structure had occurred in MCM-41-S catalysts.

The main goal of this work was to collect industrial oily residues and isolate lipolytic yeasts by selecting the best strain in relation to lipolytic and esterification activities and investigate the increase of production in shake flasks. A total of 78 yeasts were isolated on Yeast Malt agar and 44 strains with lipase-producing potential pre-selected on tributyrin agar. The yeast identified as Yarrowia lipolytica showed the highest lipolytic and esterification activities, reaching 2.67 U/mL and 464.65 U/g, respectively, at 48 h. Medium 4 showed major lipolytic (2.

We have developed two esterification strategies for a challenging coupling between camphoric acid and solanesol to achieve a hybrid natural product - solanesyl camphorate. Both synthetic strategies applied the classic activation mode of carboxylic acid group by anhydride formation to overcome the difficulties caused by steric hindrance and the difference in polarity of two reactants.

Commercially useful lipases are usually obtained from microorganisms that produce a wide variety of extracellular lipases. Many lipases are active in organic solvents where they catalyze a number of useful reactions including esterification (Chowdary et al., 2001; Hamsaveni et al., 2001; Kiran et al., 2001a; Kiyota et al., 2001; Krishna and Karanth, 2001; Krishna et al., 2001; Rao and Divakar, 2001), transesterification, regioselective acylation of glycols and menthols, and synthesis of peptides (Ducret et al., 1998; Zhang et al.
