As an atom economy technology, the direct esterification reaction of olefins plays a significant role in the production of organic esters. In this work, a series of resin-supported HPW catalysts were prepared using D101, D152, RM027, and A15 as the carriers, and they were used to prepare 1-methylpentyl acetate by the esterification of 1-hexene and acetic acid.

Organocatalytic acetylation of pea starch was systematically optimized using tartaric acid as catalyst. The effect of the degree of substitution with alkanoyl (DSacyl) and tartaryl groups (DStar) on thermal and moisture resistivity, and film-forming properties was investigated. Pea starch with DSacyl from 0.03 to 2.8 was successfully developed at more efficient reaction rates than acetylated maize starch.

Esterification of organic acids with alcohols under mild conditions in high yields using graphite oxide, a readily available and inexpensive material, as an effective reagent is described. Esters are a class of compounds widely distributed in nature. Reaction experiments were also conducted in identical conditions in the presence of catalysts recovered after the reaction. The results indicated that sustainable activity could be achieved in the presence of these spent catalysts with activity losses around 10%. Evaluation of characterization analyses conducted with fresh and spent catalysts showed that the activity loss of SBA15-S catalysts had merely been due to STA leaching, whereas deformation of pore structure had occurred in MCM-41-S catalysts.

Boron methacrylate (BAc) monomer was synthesized via an esterification reaction. Boric acid, neopentyl glycol, and 2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) were reacted to obtain boron-containing acrylic monomer. Characterization was achieved by FT-IR, 13 C NMR, 1 H NMR, and 11 B NMR and the results for the synthesized monomer were compared to those for HEMA. Homopolymer and copolymers with styrene (St) were synthesized via free radical polymerization. The properties of the synthesized styrene copolymers were investigated using several techniques.

An efficient and facile method has been developed for the synthesis of alkyl bromides from various alcohols under mild conditions using a triphenylphosphine (PPh3)/1,2-dibromotetrachloroethane (DBTCE) complex in excellent yields and very short time (5 min). This method can also be applied for the transformation of chiral alcohols to their corresponding bromides in very high enantiomeric excess. The PPh3 /DBTCE complex is also successfully applied to ring-opening reactions of cyclic ethers in mild conditions.

Oleochemical-based long-chain diesters are potential organic phase change materials convenient for thermal energy storage. The development of efficient and green methods is an important requirement for the preparation of these environmentally friendly compounds, which also are finding wide industrial application. A catechol-based benzoxazine copolymer is reported via a new approach using an oxazine-thiol reaction. The main chain benzoxazine precursor was obtained via the classic benzoxazine synthesis methodology using the raw chemicals catechol, formaldehyde, and 4,7,10-trioxa-1,13-tridecanediamine. The countercomponent was synthesized from poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether via the Fischer esterification reaction. The obtained reactive catechol-based benzoxazine was then reacted in mild conditions with polymeric thiol precursor to obtain a copolymer structure.

The main purpose of this study was to find out optimal conditions for producing biodiesel via esterification of palmitic acid in excess methanol using solid acid catalyst, viz. Amberlite™ IR-120 (H) resin. A stepwise regression for Box-Behnken design was performed to optimize parameters of this process. A 93.94 % of conversion efficiencies could be explained by an insignificant lack-of-fit response surface model (R 2 = 0.9394; p = 0.259). Optimum conditions were found as follows: 8:1 in the molar feed ratio of methanol to palmitic acid, a reaction temperature as 61.

This research illustrates the results of a study on the synthesis of maleic anhydride-vinyl acetate copolymers (MAVA) with the monomer molar ratio of 1:1 by the radical polymerisation method in which benzoyl peroxide was used as a catalyst. The structure and composition of MAVA were characterised by FTIR, 1 H-NMR and 13C-NMR spectra. The molecular weight of the copolymers was determined by the viscosity method. The copolymers were then modified by the esterification reaction with hexadecanol - a long alkyl chain alcohol.

This study was undertaken to investigate effect of molecular sieves on the esterification reaction between lauric acid and geraniol in isooctane catalyzed by immobilized lipase in a batch and continuous-loop packed-bed reactor. The synthesis of 10-allyldeoxoartemisinin (7) in excellent yield through the intermediate, dihydroartemisinin10-benzoate (6) using zinc chloride as a catalyst was performed. This compound was then oxidized by osmium tetraoxide and ozone to give 10-(2’- carboxymethyl)deoxoartemisinin (8) in good yield. Esterification reaction of this compound with different benzyl alcohols in the presence of EDC and DMAP afforded a series of novel 10- deoxoartemisinins (9a-d) in high yields.

The epoxy ester was prepared from epoxy resin DER 331 and fatty acid by esterification reaction in inert gas without catalyst. The kinetics of the esterification was investigated and the results shown that the temperature, reaction time and mol ratio of epoxy resin to fatty acid suitable to electro-deposition process are 220o C, 150 minutes and 1/4, respectively. The received epoxy ester was modified with 15% (wt%) maleic anhydride at 175o C for 120 min which was adapt to binder for anodic electro-deposition coating.
