Lichens, formed by the symbiosis of fungi and algae or cyanobacteria, are increasingly recognized for their potential medicinal properties, including their potential to treat type 2 diabetes. Many studies have shown that the bioactive metabolites of lichens originate from their fungal partners. This study isolated the mycobiont from a Graphis lichen sample and investigated the antioxidant and α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of its ethyl acetate extract.

Alocasia odora is a common plant species in Viet Nam. A phytochemical investigation of the ethyl acetate extract (EtOAc) of A. odora rhizomes collected in Tuyen Quang province led to the isolation and determination of five compounds, including three alkaloids, alocasin A, hyrtiosin B, hyrtiosulawesine (3), one mono-phenol, phydroxycinamic acid, and one fatty acid, myristic acid.

Isaria cicadae, currently identified as Paecilomyces cicadae (Miq.) Samson (Cordycipitaceae, Hypocreales, Ascomycetes), is a parasitic fungus on cicadas and is considered a folk medicine in traditional medicine. In this research, the antioxidant activity of some extracts from the biomass and fruit bodies of Isaria cicadae F0004 isolated in Vietnam was investigated.

Structure, absolute configuration and cytotoxicity of compounds isolated from Decaschistia harmandii
In this work, we report the isolation and structure characterization of four compounds from ethyl acetate extract of the aerial part of D. harmandii for the first time. Especially, the absolute configuration of dimer stilbene ampelopsin F was successfully established upon circular dichroism (ECD) data. Besides, the cytotoxic properties of these compounds was also investigated on the cancer cell lines.

In this study, the antidengue virus activity of the ethanol extract from the leaves and twigs of E. cyathophora on four virus serotypes DENV1-DENV4 was examined. The result showed that the ethanol extract displayed antidengue activity on DENV1-4 with PRNT50 values of 15.625-62.5 µg/mL. This extract was fractionated to the n-hexane and ethyl acetate fractions.

Miliusa velutina Dun Hook. f. et. Thoms is the rare and native plant, belongs to the Annonaceae family. The isolated compounds in Miliusa genus showed that many function groups and have diverse bioactivities. From the ethyl acetate extract of the trunk of Miliusa velutina, three compounds were isolated and determined based on 1D, 2D NMR spectra, MS and combined comparison with references.

In our continuing search for bioactive molecules, we collected a Streptomyces fradiae strain cultured from a prickly pen shell sample obtained at Van Phong, Khanh Hoa province, Vietnam. The ethyl acetate extract of Streptomyces fradiae G650 exhibited the strong inhibition against a panel of gram-positive bacteria including Enterococcus faecalis ATCC 29212, Staphylococcus aurerus ATCC 25923, Bacillus cereus ATCC 14579, and the yeast Candida albicans with the MIC values of 8, 32, 32, 8 µg/mL, respectively.

From the ethyl acetate extract of the leaves of Amensiodendron chinense (Merr.) Hu (Sapindaceae), we isolated three known phenolic compounds: 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde (1), methyl 3,4-dihydroxybenzoate (2), and 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (3). Fractions yielded from Phellinus gilvus fruiting bodies by liquid-liquid partition of methanol extract contained various bioactive compounds such as phenolics, flavonoids and terpenes. Butanol, water and ethyl acetate fractions had large amount of phenolics, 158.12 - 247.31 mg of gallic acid equivalents (GAE)/g and low amount of flavonoids, 21.74 - 36.05 mg of quercetin equivalents (QE)/g.

Seven compounds including abietatriene (1), oleanolic acid (2), quercetagetin 3,7-dimethyl ether (3), luteolin (4), p-hydroxybenzoic acid (5), p-methylbenzoic acid (6), and protocatechuic acid (7) were isolated from the n-hexane: ethyl acetate (1:1) extract of Vitex negundo leaves collected in Binh Thuan Province. Their chemical structures were elucidated by comparing their spectroscopic data with reported data in the literature. Six compounds (exception of 4) were known to be present in Vitex negundo.

The aerial of Cissus modeccoides was collected in Binh Duong province, Vietnam. The ethanolic extract from this aerial was prepared by maceration. By liquid-liquid extraction, three extracts, n-hexane, ethyl acetate, and methanol were obtained. Three known anthraquinones 1-3 and two phenolic compounds 4-5 were isolated from the ethyl acetate extract by chromatography technique.
