Evaluation of potentiality of mango

The main aim of the research was to investigate the physico-chemical attributes of different mango cultivars for both the years. Outcome of the present research work revealed that minimum stone length (5.72 cm) and stone breadth (1.92 cm) was recorded in Sepiya. Minimum peel weight was recorded in Gulabkhas (21.80 g) and minimum peel percentage (9.01%) was observed in Mallika.

Increasing the levels of mango pulp and milk powder in sponge cake had significant impact on the volume, firmness and color. Sensory evaluation showed sponge cake formulated with 50% mango pulp and 10% milk powder to be the most acceptable. Mango pulp and milk powder have high potential as Protein -rich ingredients and can be utilized in the preparation of cake and other bakery products to improve the nutritional qualities.

Characterization of cultivars using bio-chemical markers has been successfully used for selection of improved cultivars in mango for breeding programs. The study was conducted at Horticultural research station, Venkataramannagudem for evaluating the variability of mango cultivars to conserve the elite ones and to identify the superior genotypes based on fruit bio-chemical markers for future crop improvement. Thirty four cultivars were characterized using bio-chemical fruit markers in subsequent years to know the genetic diversity in mango.

Edible films and coating are being widely studied as they have the potential to preserve the fresh produce, and are biodegradable. Taking this into account the aim of this study was to develop and evaluate the film properties such as thickness, percentage transmittance, mechanical properties such as percentage elongation and tensile strength, and sealability of the nanocomposite edible films based on aloe vera gel, glycerol and nanoparticles solution. After this all the film formulations were applied as a coating of Mango (Mangifera indica L.) and stored for 9 days at room temperature.
