Over the past decade virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR) technologies have been applied to the construction industry. In this paper, examples of the application of MR technology will be introduced to further clarify how this technology changed the geotechnical industry.

This article introduces a new resilience factor which is a function of energy dissipation factors of input seismic energy. Mathematical equations are presented for this factor and its limits are determined for different periods. The applicability of the proposed factor is also investigated for two typical structural examples.

. In this paper, we present an approach to lighting design in applications where the expected result of the lighting design process for a 2D image. In this approach, the lighting-by-example method using wavelet-based objective function is used in combination with an interactive interface in order to optimize lighting parameters for an object or a group of objects individually, and then the visual results of these separate processes are combined (utilizing 3D depth information) in the seamless generation of a final 2D image.

The Hybrid Artificial Intelligent model is a new method for evaluation of food biotechnology based on collaborative expert preferences and customer behaviours. This new approach using Kansei evaluation is to quantify expert sensibilities and emotions about bio-food quality in market and biofood research environments. Further improvement of food biotechnology evaluation applying for a real case study with expert feedbacks can be considered in future studies.

Recently, some of the furoquinoline alkaloids were found to have an interesting biological activity, for example, anti-cancer, antiplatelet aggregation and antifungal activities. The interesting biological activity made these compounds 1-13 attractive targets in organic chemistry. A novel generally applicable synthesis of furoquinolines is described. The condensation of 2- methoxy aniline and malonic acid in the presence of POCl3 gave 2,4-dichloro-8- methoxyquinoline. Then, treatment of this compound with sodium methoxide in methanol under reflux afforded 4,8-dimethoxyquinoline.

Large-pore three-dimensional (3D) mesoporous silicas are among the most interesting mesoporous materials discovered in recent years, and they have attracted much attention for potential applications requiring easily accessible, uniform and large pores. Examples of these are SBA-15 (p6 mm) and SBA-16 (Im3m), which have cylindrical- and cage-type structures, respectively.

The first objective of Kalman filtering With a radar tracking implementation is to give deep enough insight into the mathematics of the Kalman filter algorithm to be able to choose the correct type of algorithm and to set all the parameters correctly in a basic application. This description also includes several examples of different approaches to derive and to explain the Kalman filter algorithm.

Government information is often not mobile friendly; increasing accessibility (especially of local information) is one way libraries can serve diverse users. Some libraries are providing services of this type in a desktop-oriented way already. This chapter discusses tools that can be used to make such sites more mobile friendly, including ones requiring little funds or technical background. The most obvious way to leverage patrons’ mobile devices is to put content on the Web.

Consolidation of applications in cloud computing environments presents a significant opportunity for energy optimization. As a first step toward enabling energy efficient consolidation, we study the inter-relationships between energy consumption, resource utilization, and performance of consolidated workloads. The study reveals the energy performance trade-offs for consolidation and shows that optimal operating points exist. We model the consolidation problem as a modified bin packing problem and illustrate it with an example.

Communication Architecture Strategy for connecting host computers and other communicating equipment. Defines necessary elements for data communication between devices. A communication architecture, therefore, defines a standard for the communicating hosts. A programmer formats data in a manner defined by the communication architecture and passes it on to the communication software. Separating communication functions adds flexibility, for example, we do not need to modify the entire host software to include more communication devices....
