Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires long term medical attention both to limit the development of its devastating complications and manage them when they occur. This study was designed to assess the effect of glycaemic control on the serum lipid profile of type II diabetic patients in the university college hospital Ibadan, Oyo State.

Empirical evidence on the epidemiology of hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia is limited in many countries in Central and Eastern Europe. We aimed to estimate the prevalence, awareness, treatment and control of hypertension, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia in the Czech Republic, Russia, Poland and Lithuania, and to identify the risk factors for the three chronic conditions.

Currently, diabetes has become one of the leading causes of death worldwide. Fasting plasma glucose (FPG) levels that are higher than optimal, even if below the diagnostic threshold of diabetes, can also lead to increased morbidity and mortality.

The associations between fasting blood glucose and staging and overall survival of patients with pancreatic cancer are still controversial. This study aimed to investigate the association between fasting blood glucose levels and overall survival (OS) of patients with pancreatic cancer and to evaluate the impact of differentiation and staging of pancreatic cancer.

A study having experimental design with pre and post observations including 46 postmenopausal women of 45-55 years was conducted. The selected women were randomly divided into 2 groups. Experimental group A and B received 50g of raw and germinated black soybean flour per day, respectively, for consecutive 90 days. Information on general characteristics, anthropometric measurements and nutrient intake was collected.

Diets/nutrients have a significant effect on the biological process of all kinds of living organisms, especially high-fat diet or high glucose-induced obesity/diabetes affects hundreds of millions of people worldwide and considered as global epidemics. In this study, we conducted a high glucose immersion protocol to induce hyperglycemic zebrafish, later on, with the aim to evaluate the relationship between hyperglycemia and Viral Haemorrhagic Septicaemia Virus (VHSV) infection.

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the most common endocrinopathies observed in dogs. The main clinical manifestations are polydipsia, polyuria, polyphagia, weight loss and glucosuria. The etiology of diabetes mellitus is similar in dogs, cats and humans and is probably multifactorial (genetic, immune and environmental factors). Diabetes mellitus is described to be deficiency or absolute lack of insulin secretion is divided into two types: insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (IDDM) and non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM). Various breed susceptibilities have been reported.

The current study evaluated the antihyperglycemic and hypolipidaemic effects of methanolic extract of Viscum schimperi Engl. whole parts in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. The antihyperglycemic activity was evaluated by measuring the fasting blood glucose level (BGL) and by applying the oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) in diabetic rats. In addition, the effect of the extract on blood plasma insulin was measured as well as its effect on tissue glycogen contents in muscle and liver.

Given the association between metabolic disturbance and sarcopenia, sarcopenia may be intrinsically associated with the prevalence of HL. However, few studies describe the association between sarcopenia and HL. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical association between sarcopenia and HL in postmenopausal Korean women.

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of laser acupuncture combined with a diet-exercise intervention on features of the metabolic syndrome (MetS). Twenty-eight obese post-menopausal women were randomly distributed to the control and laser acupuncture group. The control group received the diet-exercise intervention and the study group received the same intervention and sessions of laser acupuncture, 3 times/week for 12 weeks.

Overall, the evidence appraised suggested that monotherapy with metformin produced significantly greater improvements in glycaemic control (i.e. HbA1c and FPG/fasting blood glucose (FBG)) when it was compared with placebo, diet and sulfonylureas. Head-to-head comparisons with other antidiabetic agents (i.e. alpha-glucosidase inhibitors, thiazolidinediones, meglitinides and insulin) and extended-release formulations of metformin, failed to show more benefit for glycaemic control than standard monotherapy with metformin.

The blood glucose test is ordered to measure the amount of glucose in the blood right at the time of sample collection. It is used to detect both hyperglycemia and hypoglycemia, to help diagnose diabetes, and to monitor glucose levels in persons with diabetes. Blood glucose may be measured on a fasting basis (collected after an 8 to 10 hour fast), randomly (anytime), post prandial (after a meal), and/or as part of an oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT / GTT). To Prepare • Do not eat or drink anything, including water, after midnight before the test (6h). This includes...

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF) provides recommendations for evidence-based screening (Table 4-3). In addition to these population-based guidelines, it is reasonable to consider family and social history to identify individuals with special risk (www.ahrq.gov/clinic/uspstfix.htm). For example, when there is a significant family history of breast, colon, or prostate cancer, it is prudent to initiate screening about 10 years before the age when the youngest family member developed cancer.
