Fatty acid desaturase 1 (FADS1) and 2 (FADS2) genes code respectively for the enzymes delta-5 and delta-6 desaturases which are rate limiting enzymes in the synthesis of polyunsaturated omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (FAs). Omega-3 and-6 FAs as well as conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) are present in bovine milk and have demonstrated positive health effects in humans.

The 2-benzoylbenzoxazole derivatives were known for their significant biological activities such as antiproliferative activity, inhibition of FAAH enzyme (fatty acid amide hydrolase). In this study, we report a simple and efficient method for the synthesis of such compounds by the direct reaction of o-aminophenol with acetophenone catalyzed by sulfur in DMSO.

This study describes the selective synthesis of C36 -dimer fatty acids, by reacting unsaturated fatty acid at 533 K for 6 h in the presence of montmorillonite and lithium chloride as the catalyst and cocatalyst, respectively. The catalytic performance of different montmorillonite and organic modified montmorillonite catalysts was investigated in the dimerization of technical grade unsaturated fatty acid, and the influence of the catalyst structure and composition on the catalytic performance was analyzed.

This study involves the quantitative analysis of high free fatty acid crude palm oil, the separation of palmitic acid and synthesis of palm palmitic acid-based bioplastic. Synthesis of dimethyl 2-tetradecylmalonate (DMTDM) using methyl palmitate (MP) with sodium hydride (NaH) in the presence of reactive solvent of dimethyl carbonate (DMC) was carried out. The reaction conditions comprise at a mole ratio of MP: DMC: NaH: dimethylformamide (DMF) (0.1:2:0.25:1) at 60°C for 14 h with 88.3 ± 1.4% yield. FTIR spectra of DMTDM showed the ester carbonyl group at 1740 cm–1.

Pyruvate carboxylase (PC) is an important anaplerotic enzyme in the tricarboxylic acid cycle (TCA) in cancer cells. Although PC overexpression has been observed in thyroid cancer (TC), the mechanisms involved in the carcinogenic effects of PC are still unclear.

Heilongjiang Province located in northeast China is a multi-ethnic region with people who have lived in cold conditions for several generations. Fatty acids are important to people with cold resistance. CPT1A encodes a protein that imports long-chain fatty acids into the mitochondria for fatty-acid oxidation. FADS is an essential enzyme for the synthesis of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids.

The gut microbiota provides health benefits in humans by producing short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), whose deficiency causes multiple disorders and inflammatory diseases. However, gut bacteria producing SCFAs in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF), an arrhythmia with increasing prevalence, have not been reported.

The nutritional value of soybean oil is largely influenced by the proportions of unsaturated fatty acids (FAs), including oleic acid (OA, 18:1), linoleic acid (LLA, 18:2), and linolenic acid (LNA, 18:3). Genome-wide association (GWAS) studies along with gene expression studies in soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] were leveraged to dissect the genetics of unsaturated FAs.

In this study, linoleic acid is obtained by hydrolysis of soybean oil in ethanol/KOH, separation and enrichment using the urea-fatty acid complex formation method for the fractionation of fatty acids. The process involves the formation at 60 ◦C of a homogeneous solution of free fatty acid and urea in 95% ethanol, followed by cooling the resultant urea complex slurry to -5 ◦C and separation by filtration.

Certain strains of microalgae known as diatoms were shown, under appropriate conditions, to produce up to 60% of their cellular mass as lipids under certain growth conditions. Acetyl-Co-A carboxylase catalyses the first committed step in the synthesis of fatty acids, i.e., carboxylation of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. In present study we have isolated the two species of marine diatoms Odontella aurita and Chaetoceros muelleri from Vellar estuary Parangipettai Southest coast of India and studied the acetyl co-A carboxylase activity at different Si treatment nutrient medium.
