A finite element model using a multi-fiber approach is proposed in this paper for the analysis of reinforced concrete (RC) members using fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) reinforcements, with a specific focus on the effect of pure torsion. The main objective of this study is to develop a numerical finite element model to predict the behavior of RC beams with FRP reinforcement under pure torsional effects.

The scope of this work is threefold: (i) to develop a new model within the framework of hydro-mechanical – damage coupling that can account for the coupling between microcrack (damage), water diffusion and shrinkage at stake for concrete secondary creep; (ii) to implement it in an existing hydro-damage lattice model; (iii) to validate the model with respect to the flexural creep of Fiber Reinforced Concrete (FRC) and Mortars under high sustained load level.

In the present study, from recent experimental results of asymmetrical loading tests on SFRC beams without stirrups, three NLFE models have been validated and further developed to evaluate the impact that the ratio of shear span-to-depth (a/d) and the compressive strength of steel fiber concrete (SFC) have on the shear behavior and shear strength of SFRC beams without stirrups.

natural fiber for the construction of hybrid bio-composites. In the current research project, a thorough analysis of the use of soy-PF resin for the creation of composites reinforced with jute was conducted. A novel and practical cutlery material was created after the mechanical properties were evaluated and optimized. In order to study the value addition of these newly proposed biocomposite materials as an ecological alternative in terms of natural resources versus synthetic resources, variables such as hardness, cytotoxicity, and degrading qualities of composites were also explored.

Steel fiber reinforced concrete (SFRC) is a multiple-composite material developed during the early 1970s. In SFRC, short steel fibers are randomly distributed in concrete. Steel fibers can prevent the development of micro-cracks inside the concrete and reduce the expansion and development of the macro-cracks, thus enhance mechanical performance of SFRC. However, there is lack of studies on the influence of flowability of fresh SFRC on the steel fiber distribution patterns and mechanical properties of hardened SFRC.

In recent years, optical orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OOFDM) has emerged as a dominant research and development area in the field of high-speed optical communications. OFDM is a potential candidate as the most promising next-generation optical networks such as passive optical networks and optical transport networks, due to their simple configuration based on low cost, high speed data rates, high spectral efficiency, high quality of service and robustness against narrow band interference, frequency selective fading, and chromatic dispersion.

This paper presents the result of research on equipment development of vacuum injection molding technique for preparation the chopped bamboo fiber polymer composite and some properties of obtained composite material. For the vacuum injection molding technique, firstly the dry fibers were plated in the mold. Then the mold was closed by the vacuum bag, the air inside the mold was sucked out by a vacuum pump, due to the difference of the pressure in side and outside the mold, the polymer liquid was transferred to the closed mold and impregnated the bamboo fiber.

Cotton bamboo fibers were prepared by mechanical method and their diameter were about 9- 26 µm. Surface composition and morphology of fibers were studied. The analytic result shown that most of hemicellulose and lignin were removed. There is a strong and sharp peak in the untreated bamboo spectra at about 1736 cm-1 corresponding to carbonyl group (C=O), but this peak disappeared in alkaline treated bamboo spectra. Epoxy composites reinforced cotton bamboo fiber have been developed with varying fiber contents.

Zinc Zinc is an integral component of many metalloenzymes in the body; it is involved in the synthesis and stabilization of proteins, DNA, and RNA and plays a structural role in ribosomes and membranes. Zinc is necessary for the binding of steroid hormone receptors and several other transcription factors to DNA. Zinc is absolutely required for normal spermatogenesis, fetal growth, and embryonic development.

Myogenic Ptosis The causes of myogenic ptosis include myasthenia gravis (Chap. 381) and a number of rare myopathies that manifest with ptosis. The term chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia refers to a spectrum of systemic diseases caused by mutations of mitochondrial DNA. As the name implies, the most prominent findings are symmetric, slowly progressive ptosis and limitation of eye movements. In general, diplopia is a late symptom because all eye movements are reduced equally. In the Kearns-Sayre variant, retinal pigmentary changes and abnormalities of cardiac conduction develop.

Anatomy of Sensation Cutaneous afferent innervation is conveyed by a rich variety of receptors, both naked nerve endings (nociceptors and thermoreceptors) and encapsulated terminals (mechanoreceptors). Each type of receptor has its own set of sensitivities to specific stimuli, size and distinctness of receptive fields, and adaptational qualities. Much of the knowledge about these receptors has come from the development of techniques to study single intact nerve fibers intraneurally in awake, unanesthetized human subjects.
