Detection of subgenome bias using an anchored syntenic approach in Eleusine coracana (finger millet)
Finger millet (Eleusine coracana 2n = 4x = 36) is a hardy, nutraceutical, climate change tolerant, orphan crop that is consumed throughout eastern Africa and India. Its genome has been sequenced multiple times, but A and B subgenomes could not be separated because no published genome for E. indica existed.

Finger millet is an important millet owing to its excellent storage properties and the nutritive value. So dehulling or pearling of finger millet is necessary to remove its outer layer to improve its flour quality. Pearling of this millet is quite difficult as its seed coat is bound tightly to the endosperm of the grain.

In spite of the labor scarcity, uniform population as well as adequate plant spacing cannot be possible in the field this also one of the factor for low productivity of finger millet. To rectify these problems mechanical transplanting is only the possible way to achieve maximum production and productivity (Vasudevan et al., 2014).

Research information on response of crops to phosphorus and potassium levels generated very scanty and as such generating further information is very much essential specially in low phosphorus and potassium containing soils to combat the present situation. With this in view, the present study was initiated in low phosphorus and potassium soils to assess the effect of phosphorus and potassium levels on growth, yield and economics of finger millet in Alfisols of Ramanagara district of Karnataka.

Fertilizers are one of the costly inputs but continue to exert significant contribution to produce additional food grains. To realize maximum benefits and reduce nutrient losses from fertilizers, they must be applied in the right quantity, source and combination at the right time using the right method.

The present investigation was carried out to study effect of processing on the seeds which were used for inclusion in the energy bars of sports person. The seeds selected for the study were Flax, Chia, Pumpkin and Finger millet seeds. Proximate parameters and mineral estimation were done to assess the nutritional profile of all the seeds. The result shows that protein content of the seeds were increased significantly during germination while it was decreased significantly during roasting and popping.

An experiment was conducted at Department of Agronomy, Agricultural College and Research Institute, Killikulam to achieve enhanced remuneration and profit margin in irrigated finger millet through intercropping and mulching. Among mulching, the highest gross return (Rs.68,336/- ha-1 ) and B:C ratio of 2.16 was obtained in rice straw mulch (M1) which was followed by M2 (shredded coconut waste mulch) with a gross return of Rs.63,635/- ha-1 and B:C ratio of 2.01. Similar trend in net return was observed because of higher crop yield.
