Cadmium pollution now is one of the main environmental problems. Growing of plants hyper accumulators of Cd can help to remediate the polluted soils. Species Linum usitatissimum L. is one of such crops. Cadmium concentrations were analysed in the ashes of adult plants by x-ray fluorescence analyzer BRA – 18. The presence of pollutants did not influence flax germination ability, but tested genotypes showed different degrees of cadmium resistance.

The recent release of the reference genome sequence assembly of flax, a self-pollinated crop with 15 chromosome pairs, into chromosome-scale pseudomolecules enables the characterization of gene families. The ABC transporter and HMA gene families are important in the control of cadmium (Cd) accumulation in crops.

A sustainable breeding program requires a minimum level of germplasm diversity to provide varied options for the selection of new breeding lines. To maximize genetic gain of the North Dakota State University (NDSU) flax breeding program, we aimed to increase the genetic diversity of its parental stocks by incorporating diverse genotypes.

Members of the WRKY protein family, one of the largest transcription factor families in plants, are involved in plant growth and development, signal transduction, senescence, and stress resistance. However, little information is available about WRKY transcription factors in flax (Linum usitatissimum L.).

Oil flax (linseed, Linum usitatissimum L.) is one of the most important oil crops., However, the increases in drought resulting from climate change have dramatically reduces linseed yield and quality, but very little is known about how linseed coordinates the expression of drought resistance gene in response to different level of drought stress (DS) on the genome-wide level.

Flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) is a food, fiber and oil seed crop cultivated in cooler regions. The oil content of the seed varies from 33–47%. In India it is grown mainly for seed used for extracting oil. The crop is affected by Alternaria blight caused by Alternaria spp. Different doses of microalgae were applied (@ 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 and 6.5 kg/acre) with irrigation at critical growth stages of crop (vegetative phase, flowering phase and maturity phase) and observations were recorded on plant growth parameters and per cent disease incidence of Alternaria Blight.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play a critical role in responses to biotic and abiotic stress and have been characterized in a large number of plant species. Although flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) is one of the most important fiber and oil crops worldwide, no reports have been published describing flax miRNAs (Lus-miRNAs) induced in response to saline, alkaline, and saline-alkaline stresses.

Flax is an important field crop that can be used for either oilseed or fiber production. Plant height and technical length are important characters for flax. For linseed flax, plants usually have a short technical length and plant height than those for fiber flax.

The genetics of resistance against rust disease caused by Melamspora lini in linseed or flax was studied in F1, F2, BC1 and BC2 generations of a susceptible variety T-397, crossed with a resistant variety Surbhi. On the basis of the segregating ratio obtained in F2 and backcross generations of the cross, T-397 × Surbhi i.e., (3:1) in F2 and (1:1) in BC1 revealed that single dominant gene is responsible for resistance against rust in these linseed genotypes under study.

Twenty five (25) flax type linseed genotypes taken from AICRP on linseed, Indira Gandhi Krishi Vishwavidyalaya, Raipur (C.G.) along with three checks (Surabhi, R-552, RLC-92) were evaluated for variability among yield and yield contributing traits in yellow seeded linseed at Raipur (C.G.). Analysis of variance implied that significant differences exist among the genotypes exist for all the characters under study. The magnitude of PCV was higher than the corresponding GCV for all the traits. Close correspondence between phenotypic and genotypic coefficient of variation were observed i.e.

Hypocotyl explants of 3 flax cultivars were cultured for adventitious shoot regeneration in 3 different ways. Two pretreatment applications were compared with the routinely applied conventional regeneration protocol of culturing explants directly on Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium containing 1 mg L-1 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP) and 0.02 mg L-1 naphthalene acetic acid (NAA).

Hypocotyl and stem explants excised from in vitro and greenhouse-grown seedlings of Madaras, 1886 Sel. and Omega flax cultivars were compared in terms of percentage of explants producing shoots, shoot number per explant and total shoot number per petri dish. Hypocotyl explants resulted in better shoot regeneration.

The effects of mineral salts on fiber cell thickness in flax (Linum usitatissimum L. cultivar Sarı 85) were investigated in plants grown in medium both rich and poor in mineral salts and vitamins. Three media were investigated: Control (MS medium), mineral salt and vitamin deficient MS medium, and mineral salt and vitamin rich MS medium.

Temperature is the most important factor in regulating the germination of nondormant seeds at the beginning of the growth season. The present study was conducted to produce simple regression models to predict how temperature affects the time it takes for 50% of a selection of flax seeds to germinate.
