Flood management strategy

In this paper, the research done is about the risk distribution model estimation on health insurance claims using Bayesian. The objective is to derive a health insurance risk model and determine the amount of net premium for each insured age group in health insurance. The sample of this study is the participant of health insurance in the Bandung area, Indonesia, especially for the insured who live in flood-prone areas.

The study shows the advantages and disadvantages of hydraulic modeling in flood simulation and flood mapping from satellite images. There is a very high potential of using the hydraulic model together with satellite data for flood hazard assessment.

Farmers in flood prone areas mostly use only urea without any solid recommendations. Possibilities of recurrent flooding/submergence during the season are one of reasons for avoiding nutrient application, through it has a strong bearing on regeneration growth and yield of rice varieties after floods, hence suitable nutrient management strategies are essential to enhance the productivity.

Worldwide, weeds are one of the major biological threats to higher rice productivity and its management in rice is challenging, complex, expensive, and regulated mechanism. Major rice-wheat growing soils of Upper Gangetic Plains, India were studied and evaluated by considering soil-site characteristics by using qualitative and quantitative methods. The qualitative method employed were USDA land capability classification and land suitability classification, while the quantitative evaluation method includes Riquier's parametric approach. The land evaluation methods indicated that information on production potential of soils provide a basis for comparison among different soils.

This paper explains how the management of the full-dyke system in the deep flooded zones of the Vietnamese Mekong Delta affects rice cultivation, and outlines how alternative dyke management strategies could offer more sustainable adaptations in the face of future environmental threats. The current management of the ‘full-dyke’ network has been successful in promoting triple-cropping rice cultivation, but this practice has prevented sediment deposition on the land surface.

This paper identifies five water environmental problems in the Delta that are the principal limiting factors of agricultural production and human health, i.e. (i) the salinity intrusion in the coastal areas, (ii) the effect of acid sulfate soils, (iii) the polluted water from human activities, (iv) the fresh water shortage in the dry season and (v) the flood in the rainy season.
