  • The term “push” and “pull” have been used to explain a wide variety of production inventory systems. The distinction refers to a specific attribute, which can be identified by observing the mechanisms for controlling material flow on the shop floor and a specific policy for the management of inventories and production schedules. This paper gives an attempt to compare these systems under their optimal settings under a constraint resource.

  • This paper deals with Flow-shop Sequence-Dependent Group Scheduling and worker assignment problem. Flow-shop allows the process of a set of families of products applying the group technology concept to reduce setup costs, lead times, and work-in-process inventory costs. The worker assignment problem deals with assigning workers to workstations considering their different abilities and learning effect.

  • The published papers are classified into two categories. First is the FFS system characteristics and constraints including the problem differences and limitation defined by different studies. Second, the scheduling performances evaluation are elaborated and categorized into time, job and multi related objectives. In addition, the resolution approaches that have been used to solve FFS scheduling problems are discussed. This paper gives a comprehensive guide for the reader with respect to future research work on the FFS scheduling problem.

  • In this paper, simulation models for recovering biomass from the field of the biorefinery are developed and validated using some industry data and the minimum biomass recovery cost is established based on different strategies employed for recovering biomass. Energy densification techniques are evaluated for their net present worth and the technologies that offer greater returns for the industry are recommended. In addition, a new scheduling algorithm is also developed to enhance the process flow of the management of resources and the flow of biomass.

  • Across the disciplines and levels of education, team projects are becoming an increasingly important tool for assessment. However, it is often difficult to make sure that work is fairly distributed, that a reasonable schedule is formed which does not leave everything for the last minute, and that individual students are fairly rewarded/penalized for their respective contributions. To solve these problems, we can model a project using events, rules, and workflows.

  • In this study, first we show the role of nonlinear state space equations in modeling the standard TS, a suitable transformation is then devised to convert this model to linear switching state space (LS3) equations with nonlinear constraints, and then the most important aspects of a control-based system – the stability, controllability, observability and stabilizability – for the proposed method is analytically proven.

  • This paper presents an extended production inventory model in which the production rate at any instant depends on the demand and the inventory level. The effects of the time value of money are incorporated into the model. The demand rate is a linear function of time for the scheduling period. The proposed model can assist managers in economically controlling production systems under the condition of considering a discounted cash flow.

  • The paper deals with a formulation of an analytical control model for optimal power flow in an islanded microgrid (MG). In an MG with load change, wind power fluctuation, sun irradiation power disturbance, that can significant influence the power flow, and hence the power flow control problem in real life system faces some new challenges. In order to maintain the balance of power flow, a diesel engine generator (DEG) needs to be scheduled.

  • This paper focuses on a SCESS in terms of modeling and control designing aim to manage active power flow between the grid and the SCESS. A predictive control algorithm for discrete-time bilinear state-space model of a non-isolated bidirectional DC-DC converter is proposed. This algorithm is supplementary methods for this converter besides linear or hysteresis control methods in other research. Simulations validate the effectiveness of the proposed control.
