In this investigation, neodymium orthoferrite (NdFeO3) nanoparticles has been synthesized through ultrasonic method in the presence of octanoic acid as surfactant. This method comparing to the other methods is very fast and it does not need high temperatures during the reaction.

Thecaa3-oxidase from Thermus thermophilushas been studied with a combined electrochemical, UV/VIS and Fourier-transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic approach. In this oxidase the electron donor, cytochromec, is covalently bound to subunit II of the cytochrome c oxidase. Oxidative electrochemical redox titrations in the visible spectral range yielded a midpoint potential of )0.01 ± 0.01 V (vs. Ag/AgCl/3MKCl, 0.218 V vs. SHE¢) for the hemec.

Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed on human leukemic daunorubicin-sensitiveK562 cells and their multiresistant counterpart derived by selection. Statistical analysis, including variable reduction and linear discrimi-nant analysis was performed on sensitive and multiresistant cells spectra in order to establish a diagnostic tool for multiresistant pattern. For each of the twomethods of data reduction tested [genetic algorithm or principal component analysis (PCA)] discriminationbetween the twocell lineswas found to be possible....

The interaction of bacterial endotoxins [lipopolysaccharide (LPS) and theendotoxic principle lipid A], with high-den-sity lipoprotein (HDL) from serum was investigated with a variety of physical techniques and biological assays. HDL exhibited an increase in the gel to liquid crystalline phase transition temperature Tc and a rigidification of the acyl chains of the endotoxins as measured by Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy and differential scanningcalorimetry.

The folding of a 93-residue protein, the histidine-phospho-carrier protein ofStreptomyces coelicolor,HPr,hasbeen studied using several biophysical techniques, namely fluo-rescence, 8-anilinonaphthalene-1-sulfate binding, circular dichroism, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, gel filtration chromatography and differential scanning calori-metry. The chemical-denaturation behaviour of HPr, fol-lowed by fluorescence, CD and gel filtration, at pH 7.5 and 25C, is described as a two-state process, which does not involve the accumulation of thermodynamically stable intermediates.

Cyclobutane-type pyrimidine dimers generated by ultraviolet irradiation of DNA can be cleaved by DNA photolyase. The enzyme-catalysed reaction is believed to be initiated by the light-induced transfer of an electron from the anionic FADH ) chromophore of the enzyme to the pyrimidine dimer. In this contribution, first infrared experiments using a novel E109A mutant ofEscherichia coliDNA photolyase, which is catalytically active but unable to bind the second cofactor methenyltetrahydrofolate, are described....

AP1 (GEQGALAQFGEWL) was shown by theoretical analysis to be an anionic oblique-orientateda-helix former. The peptide exhibited a mono-layer surface area of 1.42 nm 2 , implying possession of a-helical structure at an air⁄water interface, and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) showed the peptide to be a-helical (100%) in the presence of vesi-cle mimics of Escherichia colimembranes.
