This study deals with the effect of fiber content on fracture parameters of high-performance steel-fiber-reinforced concretes through a bending test program. All the high-performance steel-fiber-reinforced concretes flexural specimens were tested under configuration of three-point loading.

In the current paper, the effect of central and edge cracks, therefore, has been studied in jointed plates at mid-height of SPSW. Results indicated that the central crack is more destructive than the edge crack. The central crack having a long initial length also makes a sudden wall fracture in the elastic zone and consequently cannot be used in high seismic regions.

Varto and the surrounding region have important geothermal fields, developing in strike-slip tectonic setting in East Anatolia, which resulted from the collision of the Arabian and Eurasian plates. The main structural elements in the area are the NE-trending sinistral and NW-trending dextral strike-slip fault segments and N-S trending extension zones. In order to determine fault-controlled geothermal circulation, it is very important to fully characterize the structural elements in these complex environments.

The numerical wedge splitting tests show that in the case of brittle materials, the lower post-failure stress limit defined in the concrete damaged plasticity model resulted in energy consumption for crack propagation exceeding the defined fracture energy (114% higher in the case of a brittleness number of 4.4).

Different criteria are available in the literature to assess the fracture behaviour of sharp V-notches. A typical and well-known criterion is based on the application of the notch stress intensity factors (NSIFs), which are able to quantify the intensity of the stress fields ahead of the notch tip.

Two procedures to evaluate fracture resistance of notched components are proposed in this contribution: the Strain Energy Density (SED) over a control volume and the Cohesive Zone Model (CZM). With the aim to simplify the application of the two fracture criteria, the concept of the ‘equivalent local mode I’ is presented.

The present work summarizes some recent experimental, theoretical and numerical results on brittle fracture of isostatic polycrystalline graphite. The analyses have been carried out on V-notched samples under mixed mode (I+II), torsion and compression loading, considering various combinations of the notch tip radius, opening angle and notch tilt angle.

In this paper, a volume criterion based on a simple scalar quantity, the mean value of the strain energy (SED), has been used to assess the static strength of notched components made of Polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA).

Variation of the impact characteristics such as maximum contact load, maximum deflection, maximum contact time, absorbed energy are depicted in the figures. The results showed that PVDF nanofibers are not a good choice for toughening epoxy and improving impact damage resistance of GFRP.

Cleavage is a low-energy fracture that propagates along well-defined low-index crystallographic planes known as cleavage planes. Theoretically, a cleavage fracture should have perfectly matching faces and should be completely flat and featureless. However, engineering alloys are polycrystalline and contain grain and subgrain boundaries, inclusions, dislocations, and other imperfections that affect a propagating cleavage fracture so that true, featureless cleavage is seldom observed.
