In this work, collagen extracted from fresh-water fish scales has been used as a matrix in the drug delivery polymeric system. Allopurinol has been applied to reduce the concentration of uric acid in blood and used as a model drug in collagen drug delivery system. The functional groups in collagen/allopurinol biocomposite as well as the morphology of this material were assessed by infrared (IR) spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy (SEM).

The effect of fresh juice extract of Azadirachta indica on lipid profile and hepatic function of Plasmodium berghei infected albino mice were investigated. Thirty adult male mice were placed in five groups of six mice each, acclimatized for 7 days and used for the study. Group A was normal control and had free access to feed and water while groups B to E were infected with Plasmodium berghei, and confirmed of parasitamia on the third day. Groups C, D and E were further given standard anti malaria drug (5 mg/kg body weight of Artesunate), 4.3ml/kg and 8.

The ichthyo-fauna in the Ba Che and Tien Yen rivers, northern Vietnam is highly diverse, with a total of 245 species determined. However, data on the distribution of fish species are not sufficiently provided for the whole area. This study was conducted from 2008 to 2011 at 27 stations from the Ba Che and Tien Yen river basins to determine the distribution of fish species according to different sections of the rivers, water bodies, seasons, and salinity levels.

Screened the all collected microalga samples from in and around the Western Ghats of Karnataka state for the bioethanol and biomass production. 62 terrestrial microalgae were collected from the fresh water bodies and only 5 samples used for bioethanol production on the basis of biochemical characteristics, were used for multiplication and fermentation study. Multiplication of algae was done by open ponds production system.

Andrographis paniculata is also known as “Rice bitters” in West Indies and “King of bitters” or “Chiretta” in England. The paper attempts to give an account of fresh water algae as an indicator of water quality. Eight lakes of Mysore have been studied. The Palmers Index IDSELS Diatom index and OMNIDA software, were used for calculated and analysed. The order of tolerance to organic pollution was calculated using the Garrett ranking techniques. According to Palmer index all the eight lakes were organically polluted. Bogadi Lake was least polluted and Karanji Lakes and Mandakahalli Lake were polluted. The present investigation compares the use of old and new techniques of detecting the water quality.
