Brown rots are important fungal diseases of stone and pome fruits. They are caused by several Monilinia species but M. fructicola, M. laxa and M. fructigena are the most common all over the world. Although they have been intensively studied, the availability of genomic and transcriptomic data in public databases is still scant. We sequenced, assembled and annotated the transcriptomes of the three pathogens using mRNA from germinating conidia and actively growing mycelia of two isolates of opposite mating types per each species for comparative transcriptome analyses.

Agrocybe aegerita is an agaricomycete fungus with typical mushroom features, which is commercially cultivated for its culinary use. In nature, it is a saprotrophic or facultative pathogenic fungus causing a white-rot of hardwood in forests of warm and mild climate. The ease of cultivation and fructification on solidified media as well as its archetypal mushroom fruit body morphology render A. aegerita a well-suited model for investigating mushroom developmental biology.

Postharvest rots of papaya reduce quality as well as quantity of papaya (Carica papaya L.). Due to firm texture, various microorganisms attack the fruit during ripening stages and cause losses. During the present investigation, effect of various weather factors on the progress of different rots was studied during the year 2019-20.

Anthracnose causes the healthy green fruits and red ripe fruits lose 31% and 46% ascorbic acid after 14 days of pathogenesis (Ramesh, 2007) and 25% loss of capsaicin content (Prasad et al., 2000). The above reasons prompted the present study to test the efficacy of botanicals in vitro.

Seventeen hot pepper characters studied manifested higher level of GCV except for seed germination (16.47 %) and seedling dry weight (13.12 %) manifested moderate level of GCV. Phenotypic Co-efficient of Variation (PCV) for germination (16.79%) and seedling dry weight (13.12%) manifested moderate level of PCV.

This study focused on the growth rate and production of the Indole Acetic Acid (IAA) hormone and the ability of rot fungus to dissolve phosphate. A total of 15 rot fungi isolated from oil palm empty fruit bunches (EFB). The growth rate of isolates identified on Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) which have been incubated for 7 days on a petri dish (ᴓ 9 cm) with a temperature of 30 °C, measured by the diameter of the colony every day.

Albinism is a serious disorder of strawberry in which fruits appear bloated, develop poor color flavor and become susceptible to fruit rot during storage. Many factors have been reported to be associated with albinism, but vigorous vegetative growth of the plant is considered as the primary factor. Strawberry is one of the most delicate fruit, which is grown commercially in temperate climatic conditions of the world. For its successful cultivation, mulching is considered as most useful cultural practice.

Arecanut is one of the major agriculturally important palm cultivated in humid tropics of India. Phytophthora “the plant destroyer” cause severe devastating diseases in arecanut palms. Fruit rot of arecanut is caused by the fungus Phytophthora spp. causes fresh infection during the monsoon and subsequent cooler months. The fungus survives as oospores, chlamydospores and mycelium in soil, on fallen nuts, on dried nuts and on inflorescence remaining in the crown.

Papaya is prone to many diseases incited by fungi, bacteria, nematodes and viruses leading to enormous loss in yield. Among all, papaya anthracnose incited by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides (Penz.) Penz. & Sacc. appear to be more severe causing substantial losses to papaya fruits during transit and storage. Papaya anthracnose is the most important disease throughout the year in India and it became a major limiting factor in papaya cultivation.

Brinjal is one of the important vegetable crops growing in India. Fruit rot brinjal caused by Alternaria alternata, Colletotrichum melongenae and Phomopsis vexans is one of the important diseases of brinjal. Hence, in this investigation, critical growth studies were done to understand the pathogen behaviour. The nutritional studies were taken up to know the best medium required for the growth and sporulation of the all three pathogens.

The field and laboratory screening of 31 accessions were carried out against fruit rot of chilli caused by Colletotrichum capsici under natural pressure condition. Out of 31 accessions eight were found resistant, remaining twenty three accessions found moderately resistant at 90 days after transplanting. The reaction during harvest stages varied from that of 90 days after harvest which recorded, 2 resistant accessions, eight moderately resistant accessions, twenty moderately susceptible accessions and Byadagi Dabbi as susceptible.

The present investigations were carried out in the Plant Pathology Laboratory of Department of Fruit Science, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana from 2014 to 2016. The anthracnose disease produce brown to pin head black necrotic lesions on tip and margin of leaves, brown to tan sunken circular spots with minute stroma in centre of lesion on green fruits and dark brown to black water soaked lesion causing browning and rotting of ripe fruit The Rhizopus rot infection start on ripe fruit with secretion of red juice from fruit tissue which later covered with white fuzzy mycelium.
