Gastric cancer ranked fourth for incidence and mortality of all cancers in Vietnam. Clinical symptoms in the early stages are often nonspecific. Patients may have epigastric pain, anorexia or weight loss. Gastroscopy combined with biopsy is a clinical test that helps diagnose gastric cancer.

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium associated with gastric diseases and disorders of the upper gastrointestinal tract. The gram-negative bacterium Helicobacter pylori is known as a persistent colonizer of the human stomach, and this bacteria is also involved in extra-intestinal diseases. In 1994, the International Agency for Research on Cancer, World Health Organization classified H. pylori as a class 1 carcinogen, the only bacterium given this classification.

Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori) associated chronic gastritis is a risk factor of gastric cancer. This study aims to confirm effect of H.pylori eradication of sequential therapy (RA-RCT) and compare with the standard triple-drug therapy (RCT), addition to evaluating the improvement about histology of chronic gastritis after treatment.

Gastric cancer (GC) sometimes presents as asymptomatic or exhibits only nonspecific symptoms in its initial stages, resulting in delayed diagnosis and subsequent starvation. Patients with gastric cancer who had preoperative malnutrition faced a heightened risk of unfavorable clinical outcomes.

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the common types of cancer in Vietnam. Over 50% of GCs are diagnosed at an unresectable stage. Deficiency in mismatch repair proteins (MMR) leading to microsatellite instability (MSI-H) is a crucial prognostic factor currently under investigation in these patients.

Porcine heart cytoplasmic malate dehydrogenase (s-MDH) is a dimeric protein (2 · 35 kDa). We have studied equilibrium unfolding and refolding of s-MDH using activity assay, fluorescence, far-UV and near-UV circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopy, hydrophobic probe-1-anilino8-napthalene sulfonic acid binding, dynamic light scattering, and chromatographic (HPLC) techniques. The unfolding and refolding transitions are reversible and show the presence of two equilibrium intermediate states.

Visual arrestin is converted from a ÔbasalÕ state to an ÔactivatedÕ state by interaction with the phosphorylated C-terminus of photoactivated rhodopsin (R*), but the conformational changes in arrestin that lead to activation are unknown. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) was used to investigate the solution structure of arrestin and characterize changes attendant upon activation. Wild-type arrestin forms dimers with a dissociation constant of 60 lM.

The plastid transcription kinase (PTK), a component of the major RNA polymerase complex from mustard chloroplasts, has been implicated in redox-mediated regulation of plastid gene expression. A cloning strategy to define the PTK gene(s) resulted in the isolation of a full-length cDNA for a protein with overall high homology with the a subunit of cytosolic casein kinase (CK2) that contained an N-terminal extension for a putative plastid transit peptide.

PII-like proteins are signal transduction proteins found in bacteria, archaea and eukaryotes. They mediate a variety of cellular responses. A second PII-like protein, called GlnK, has been found in several organisms. In the diazotroph Herbaspirillum seropedicae, PII protein is involved in sensing nitrogen levels and controlling nitrogen fixation genes. In this work, the crystal structure of the unliganded H. seropedicae PII was solved by X-ray diffraction. H. seropedicae PII has a Gly residue, Gly108 preceding Pro109 and the main-chain forms a b turn. ...

We have examined the effects of widely used stress-inducing agents on protein synthesis and on regulatory components of the translational machinery. The three stresses chosen, arsenite, hydrogen peroxide and sorbitol, exert their effects in quite different ways. Nonetheless, all three rapidly ( 30 min) caused a profound inhibition of protein synthesis. In each case this was accompanied by dephosphorylation of the eukaryotic initiation factor (eIF) 4E-binding protein 1 (4E-BP1) and increased binding of this repressor protein to eIF4E. ...

A clear difference in the enthalpy changes derived from spectroscopic and calorimetric measurements has recently been shown. The exact interpretation of this deviation varied from study to study, but it was generally attributed to the non-two-state transition and heat capacity change. Although the temperature-dependent thermodynamics of the duplex formation was often implied, systemic and extensive studies have been lacking in universally assigning the appropriate thermodynamic parameter sets.

Microcalorimetry and UV-vis spectroscopy were used to conduct thermodynamic and kinetic investigations of the scission of calf thymus DNA catalyzed by bleomycin A5 (BLM-A5) in the presence of ferrous ion and oxygen. The molar reaction enthalpy for the cleavage, the Michaelis– Menten constant for calf thymus DNA and the turnover number of BLM-A5 were calculated by a novel thermokinetic method for an enzyme-catalyzed reaction to be )577 ± 19 kJÆmol)1, 20.4 ± 3.8 lM and 2.28 ± 0.49 · 10)2 s)1, respectively, at 37.0 °C. This DNA cleavage was a largely exothermic reaction....

gp130 is the common signal transducing receptor subunit of interleukin (IL)-6-type cytokines. gp130 either homodimerizes in response to IL-6 and IL-11 or forms heterodimers with the leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) receptor (LIFR) in response to LIF, oncostatin M (OSM), ciliary neurotrophic factor (CNTF), cardiotrophin-1 (CT-1) or cardiotrophinlike cytokine resulting in the onset of cytoplasmic tyrosine phosphorylation cascades. The extracellular parts of both gp130 and LIFR consist of several Ig-like and fibronectin type III-like domains.

School of Biosciences, University of Birmingham, Edgbaston, Birmingham, UK; 2Shifa College of Medicine, Islamabad, Pakistan.Curcumin is a compound derived from the spice, tumeric. It is a potent inhibitor of the SERCA Ca2þ pumps (all isoforms), inhibiting Ca2þ-dependent ATPase activity with IC50 values of between 7 and 15 mM . It also inhibits ATPdependent Ca2þ-uptake in a variety of microsomal membranes, although for cerebellar and platelet microsomes, a stimulation in Ca2þ uptake is observed at low curcumin concentrations (,10 mM )....

This study reports the identification and characterization of the regulatory subunit, TbRSU, of protein kinase A of the parasitic protozoon Trypanosoma brucei. TbRSU is coded for by a single copy gene. The protein contains an unusually long N-terminal domain, the pseudosubstrate site involved in binding and inactivation of the catalytic subunit, and two C-terminally located, closely spaced cyclic nucleotide binding domains.
