Gellan gum

The distinctive properties of bentonite, including hydration, swelling, water absorption, ion adsorption, high viscosity, and thixotropy make it a valuable material for many applications in geotechnical engineering such as hydraulic barriers, drilling slurry, and landfill liners. This study introduces gellan gum as a friendly environmental additive that improves bentonite slurry stability when bentonite is used for soil stabilization during excavation in emergency response.

In this study, the effect of gellan gum biopolymer on strengthening bentonite slurry was studied. In order to observe the effect of gellan gum on the bentonite strengthening effectiveness, the unconfined compression tests were conducted on gellan gum-modified bentonite with consideration of gellan gum concentration, thermal curing process.

Gellan gels were produced using different approaches forming structures with varied potential applications. Gels were characterized from appearance, mechanical properties, water holding capacity (WHC) and microstructure. In addition, in vitro digestibility of these gels was evaluated to understand the effect of gastrointestinal environment on their structure stability.

Hydrogels loaded with chemotherapeutics are promising tools for local tumor treatment. In this work, redoxresponsive implantable hydrogels based on gellan gum were prepared as paclitaxel carriers for HER2-positive breast cancer therapy. To achieve different degrees of chemical crosslinking, hydrogels were synthesized in both acetate buffer and phosphate buffer and crosslinked with different concentrations of L-cysteine.

This study aimed to develop the method for stabilising the quality of fermented maize-based product by some technical solution. Three homogenisation pressures were applied (150, 200 and 250bar). Then suspensions were mixed with xanthan and gellan gums separately with different concentrations ranging from 0.1 to 0.2%.
