Assessment of genotype diversity was studied using released and in pipeline genotypes of wheat, of these 22 were released and 14 were in pipeline . Genetic diversity among 36 wheat genotypes was studied using Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. 21 RAPD primers (RPI primers) were used for screening 36 wheat genotypes from which 2,868 fragments were amplified. It was observed that 63.3% bands were polymorphic and 36.4% were monomorphic. The percent of polymorphic bands in banding pattern was calculated and it was highest in RPI-22 (81.3%) while lowest was recorded in RPI-2 (33.

Cycads occur in lowland forests and are threatened by their degradation, fragmentation and over-exploitation. Our results indicate that cycad population sizes were very small (less 100 individuals) with high propagules. These increased mating between closely related individuals growing in clumps. The allozyme data show although all studied cycads maintained high levels of genetic diversity, an average of 0.556 (0.491 in C. hoabinhensis to 0.598 in C. chevalieri ), the degree of inbreeding was high.

Murine double minute 2 (MDM2) protein exhibits many diverse biochemi-cal functions on the tumour suppressor protein p53, including transcrip-tional suppression and E3 ubiquitin ligase activity. However, more recent data have shown that MDM2 can exhibit ATP-dependent molecular chap-erone activity and directly mediate folding of the p53 tetramer. Analysing the ATP-dependent function of MDM2 will provide novel insights into the evolution and function of the protein.

Functional diversity of potassium channels in both prokaryotic and euk-aryotic cells suggests multiple levels of regulation. Posttranslational regula-tion includes differential subunit assembly of homologous pore-forming subunits. In addition, a variety of modulatory subunits may interact with the pore complex either statically or dynamically. Kv2.1 is a delayed recti-fier potassium channel isolated by expression cloning.

The (ba)8-barrel is the most common enzyme fold and it is capable of cata-lyzing an enormous diversity of reactions. It follows that this scaffold should be an ideal starting point for engineering novel enzymes by directed evolution. However, experiments to date have utilized in vivo screens or selections and the compatibility of (ba)8-barrels with in vitro selection methods remains largely untested.

Nitric oxide (NO • ) has been proposed to be a physiological modulator of cell proliferation, able to promote in most cases cell cycle arrest. In this review I explore the molecular basis of this mechanism of action. The mod-ulatory action of NO • on the intracellular concentration of cGMP and the machinery directly involved in the control of cell cycle progression, inclu-ding the expression and activity of diverse cyclins and cyclin-dependent kinases,

The calcitonin (CT)⁄CT gene-related peptides (CGRPs) constitute a large peptide family in vertebrates. However, no CT⁄CGRP superfamily mem-bers have so far been identified in invertebrates, and the evolutionary pro-cess leading to the diverse vertebrate CT⁄CGRP superfamily members remains unclear.

Subsequent to the isolation of the first recognized RFamide neuropeptide, FMRFamide, from the clam, a large number of these peptides have been identified. There are now five groups of RFamide peptides identified in mammals. RFamide peptides show diversity with respect to their N-termi-nal sequence and biological activity.

Sexual reproduction depends on the success of faithful chromosome trans-mission during meiosis to yield viable gametes. Central to meiosis is the process of recombination between paternal and maternal chromosomes, which boosts the genetic diversity of progeny and ensures normal homo-logous chromosome segregation.
