A series of chalcone analogues were synthesized using Claisen-Schmidt condensation and assayed for in vitro inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase. The synthesis involved in solvent-free reaction conditions including NaOHcatalyzed grinding or microwave irradiation in the presence of a clay-based catalyst. Hydroxychalcones and 2′-hydroxychalcones were not isolated when using grinding method, while the microwave-assisted, clay-catalyzed synthesis gave these desired products. In addition, flavanones, cyclization products from 2′-hydroxychalcones were formed in both methods.

The present study investigated the phytochemical and biological properties of the rhizomes C. aromatica. From the CHCl3 extract of C. aromatic rhizomes, six known compounds, including (-)-hannokinol, (3R,5R)-3,5-diacetoxy-1,7-bis(4- hydroxyphenyl)heptane, naringenin, 2-(4- (hydroxymethyl)phenyl)propan-2-ol, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, and bisacurone, were isolated. All compounds were tested on the biological inhibitory activities against tyrosinase, αglucosidase, and urease. It was the first time all compounds were isolated from rhizomes of C. aromatica Salisb.

The synthesized compounds' enzyme inhibition potential was tested against a-glucosidase, AChE, and BChE enzymes. As illustrated from the results of IC50, these compounds are observed as the active inhibitory potential for these enzymes. The cytotoxic activity by hemolytic Assay revealed that these compounds have mild exposure to cytotoxicity on RBCs.

In continuation of our interest in identifying new α-glucosidase inhibitors with potential to become antidiabetic drugs, this work focuses on the study of 4-(dimethylaminoalkyl)piperazine-1-carbodithioate derivatives as α-glucosidase inhibitors. The eight heterocyclic piperazine-dithiocarbamate complexes studied in this work contain a variety of substitutions on their benzene ring exhibiting potent, noncompetitive inhibition of α-glucosidase.

Twenty-five new hydroxy- and methoxy-substituted 4,6-diarylpyrimidin-2(1H)-ol (20–34) and 4,6-diarylpyrimidine-2(1H)-thiol derivatives (35–44) were synthesized from the reaction of the corresponding 1,3-diaryl-2-propene-1- one compounds (1–19) with urea or thiourea using the solid-phase microwave method. All the new synthetic compounds (20–44) were evaluated with regard to their α-glucosidase activity. However, only compounds 22–25, 27, 31, 34, 35, 37, and 40 exhibited a greater inhibitory effect than standard acarbose. The IC50 values of the active compounds ranged between 2.36 and 13.

Benzodithiophenes are heterocyclic compounds that have various medicinal and industrial applications. In the present study, halobenzodithiophene, the simplest benzofused thiophene, and its derivatives were synthesized and evaluated against alpha-glucosidase, urease, and free radical production. In the alpha-glucosidase inhibition assay, compound 2,2-bisbenzothiophne (1) exhibited potent activity with IC50 = 135 ± 0.51 µM, while its derivative 2,7-bis(butoxycarbonyl)-3,6-dichlorobenzo[1,2- b ;6,5- b ’]dithiophene (2) exhibited promising inhibition with IC50 = 263 ± 0.32 µM.

In this study, hydroxy benzoin (1-7), benzil (8-14), and benzoin/benzil-O-β-D-glucosides (15-25) were synthesized to investigate their biological activities. An efficient method for synthesizing hydroxy benzoin compounds (1-7) was prepared from four different benzaldehydes using an ultrasonic bath. Then, antioxidant (FRAP, CUPRAC, and DPPH), antimicrobial (3 Gram (-), 4/6 Gram (+), one tuberculosis and one fungus), and enzyme inhibition (acetylcholinesterase, butyrylcholine esterase, tyrosinase, α-amylase, and α- glucosidase) for the all synthesized compounds (1-25) were evaluated.

In this study, the synthesis of new monostyryl (BDPY-2) and distyryl BODIPY dyes (BDPY-4, BDPY-5) containing pyridine groups has been reported for the first time. The acetylcholinesterase from Electrophorus electricus (AChE), butyrylcholinesterase from equine serum (BuChE), α-glucosidase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae and DNA hydrolytic cleavage actions of BDPY-2, BDPY-4, BDPY5 were investigated using various techniques. The results indicated that the compounds had varying inhibition properties against AChE, BuChE, and α-glucosidase.

Crateva adansonii is a plant species belonging to the family; Capparaceae, with multiple therapeutic uses in the traditional settings, including diabetes. The objective of this study was to evaluate the antiradical and anti-hyperglycaemic properties of the aqueous extract of the bark of the trunk of Crateva adansonii. The anti-hyperglycaemic properties of the extract was evaluated by the inhibition test of α-amylase and α-glucosidase enzymes in vitro confirmed by an in vivo study, on starch and sucrose tolerance tests using acarbose as witness.
