Seizures of autoimmune etiology may occur independent of or predate syndromes of encephalitis. We report a child with “pure” autoimmune epilepsy followed up for 7 years to highlight long-term effects of this epilepsy and the importance of early initiation and appropriate escalation of immunosuppression to achieve a good long-term outcome.

Copenhagen syndrome (CS) is a rare disorder mostly observed in adolescent. The onset of the disease, with a progressive anterior vertebral ankylosis in the thoracic and/or lumbar areas often clinically revealed by thoracolumbar kyphosis. We report a series of three patients of CS with good outcome.

Timely diagnosis of uterine torsion can lead to acceptable maternal and fetal outcomes. This article presents the case of a 42-year-old pregnant woman, diagnosed with a rare 270° uterine torsion, in whom proper management led to good maternal outcomes but, unfortunately, severe prematurity and metabolic acidosis led to neonatal death.

2’,3’-Dideoxynucleosides (ddNs) are the most important class of compounds active against HIV/AIDS. They act as DNA chain terminators and competitive inhibitors of viral reverse transcriptase (RT). Currently, stavudine (d4T, Zerit) is one six drugs belonging to the ddNs family that are approved by the FDA. This article describes the synthesis of generic stavudine drug from thymidine in three steps. By mean of this synthesis, stavudine was obtained in a good yield. The structure of product and intermediate were established by NMR spectroscopies.

Delirium tremens is defined here as withdrawal symptoms complicated by disorientation, hallucinations or delusions. Autonomic overactivity is a potentially fatal aspect of this condition. A Clinical Resource and Audit Group (now part of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland) good practice statement on delirium tremens recognises the serious medical aspects of this syndrome and recommends that local protocols for admitting patients with delirium tremens are used.
