  • Ebook "Seed biology and yield of grain crops (2nd edition)" of an established title examines the determination of grain crop yield from a unique perspective, by concentrating on the influence of the seed itself. As the food supply for an expanding world population is based on grain crops harvested for their seeds, understanding the process of seed growth and its regulation is crucial to our efforts to increase production and meet the needs of that population.

  • The squareness factor γ, defined as the ratio BHc/iHc, plays very importance role. This factor reflects the magnetization process under a reversed magnetic field in magnet. So the factor γ can be used as the critical parameter for estimating the magnet quality. For the powder compaction of 6.48 g/cm3 mass density, if γ is less than 0.48 then the preparation conditions were far from the optimal ones. The value higher than 0.48 of factor γ proves that in prepared powder the coupling between grains is enhanced.

  • Field experiments were conducted during 2015-16 to gauge the fertilizer requirements for hybrid rice (cv. US-382) under Integrated Plant Nutrient Supply in Alluvial soils of Jorhat district of Assam. Following Ramamoorthy’s Inductive cum targeted yield model, the nutrient requirement per quintal of grain production and contribution from soil, fertilizer and vermicompost (CVC) were evaluated for hybrid rice.

  • The traditional milling processing practices used in rice and pulses milling, yields significant amounts in the form of brokens from rice and dal mill industries. That brokens do not find appropriate market and are listed as losses of the milling industries, generally disposed off cheaply, whereas they are equally rich in the nutrition as comparable to whole grain.

  • The estimation of crop yield before harvest helps in different policy making in an order for storage, distribution, marketing, pricing, import-export etc. Crop productions depend on several factors such as weather factors, plant characters and agricultural inputs. The present study was carried out to develop the appropriate statistical model for estimation of rice yield before harvest in the year 2018-19. This research was done on plant biometrical characters along with farmer’s appraisal.

  • Mung bean is a widely consumed tropical food grain legume and is generally affected by different abiotic stresses. Late Embryogenic Abundant (LEA) proteins help the plants to withstand these stresses by its multi-functional role. In this study, a VrLEA2 gene isolated from mung bean using gene specific primers was sequenced and the in silico analysis of the gene sequence revealed the presence of eight ORF regions. ORF6region showed high similarity to Em like protein of Vigna radiata (L) Wilczek.

  • The study was conducted to investigate some physical properties of soybean at various moisture levels. The dependence of physical properties of soybean on moisture content was determined. In the moisture range from 9.98- 27.10% (wb). The soaked soybean size increased linearly in length (6.34 - 8.95 mm), width (5.42 -6.50 mm), and thickness (4.23 - 5.35 mm) according to final moisture content. In this study, length, width and thickness models based on moisture content are defined as linear models and the regression coefficients (R2 ) related to these models are found between 0.84, 0.72 and 0.

  • Nutrient management has played a main role in achieving self-sufficiency in food grain production. A field experiment was conducted during Rabi 2016-17 and 2017-18 to evaluate nutrient requirement of wheat using Nutrient Expert Model (NE is a simple computer based decision support system or delivery tool developed by IPNI [International Plant Nutrition Institute] that can rapidly provide nutrient recommendations for N, P and K for crops). The experiment was conducted in Randomized Block Design replicated thrice at Wheat and Barley Research area, CCS HAU, Hisar, Haryana.

  • This paper deals with studying and modeling static friction coefficient (SFC) and dynamic friction coefficient (DFC) of wheat grain as affected by several treatments. Significance of single effect (SE) and dual interaction effect (DIE) of treatments (moisture content and contact surface) on SFC and, SE, DIE, and triple interaction effect (TIE) of treatments (moisture content, contact surface and sliding velocity) on DFC were determined using statistical analysis methods. Multiple linear regression (MLR) modeling was employed to predict SFC and DFC on different contact surfaces.

  • The purpose of reservoir characterisation is to fi gure out the spatial distribution of petrophysical properties such as porosity, permeability and water saturation that are key parameters for construction of the geological model. Characterisation of a carbonate reservoir is often diffi cult mainly due to the complexity of its pore system. This study presents an integrated approach to using well log and micro-geological data to characterise rock fabrics and their pore system for a carbonate reservoir in the HR structure.

  • I will argue in this paper that the standard notions of a f f e c t e d n e s s , change-of-state and result state are too coarse-grained, and will revise and enrich substantially their content, increasing their role in a compositional aspect construal procedure. I will claim in particular that a proper theory of event structure requires that enriched result states should be lexically represented, and will base on them a computational treatment of event structure within a feature-structure-based lexicon. ...

  • While information status (IS) plays a crucial role in discourse processing, there have only been a handful of attempts to automatically determine the IS of discourse entities. We examine a related but more challenging task, fine-grained IS determination, which involves classifying a discourse entity as one of 16 IS subtypes. We investigate the use of rich knowledge sources for this task in combination with a rule-based approach and a learning-based approach.

  • We extend the original entity-based coherence model (Barzilay and Lapata, 2008) by learning from more fine-grained coherence preferences in training data. We associate multiple ranks with the set of permutations originating from the same source document, as opposed to the original pairwise rankings. We also study the effect of the permutations used in training, and the effect of the coreference component used in entity extraction.
