Growth of banana Musa
-
Musa sapientum, commonly known as banana is an elongated, edible fruit – botanically a berry produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants. Banana peels have the potentials to support microbial growth. This research was focused on the fresh peels of three banana species (Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana and Musa paradisiaca).

The experiment was carried out on 72 healthy muscovy ducks starting at 28 days old to assess the effect of banana stems (Musa sapientum L) fermented with molasses, biochar and with or without vinasse on weight growth of muscovy duck (Cairina moschata). Four treatments and three replications made up a completely randomized design (CRD) of the experiment. Each batch is an experimental unit, each experimental unit consists of 6 muscovy ducks.

Tieu Hong banana variety (Musa acuminata) is one of the most popular bananas in Vietnam because they have not only beautiful colour, delicious taste but also high nutrition, and significantly economical value. Nowadays, this banana variety is primarily propagated in wide-scale by micropropagation which is effective with a high propagation coefficient, thus, that can meet the increasing demand of people to enjoy it.

The study indicated that growth characters were significantly influenced by different dose and time of application of potassium. Among the growth parameters the highest pseudostem girth (67.50 cm) and the highest leaf area index (LAI) of 4.71 was recorded under T4 [200g K2O + 100g K2O/plant (2+2 splits: 75th, 165th, 255th and 300th day after planting)].

The starch content and pectin content reached a maximum when the fruit was 14 weeks old and then gradually decreased. The tannin content decreased from fruit formation until fruit ripening. Through the research process, we found that banana achieves the best quality to harvest when fruits are 18 weeks old. The results of this study provide important data for the harvesting and storage of banana fruit.

The present study was performed to establish an efficient and standard protocol for in vitro propagation of ‘Malbhog’ (Musa paradisiaca, AAB genome) banana under suitable culture conditions and to study the effect of growth hormones BAP & NAA on the growth of explants. Further, for the first time we report here the effect of MWCNTs (Multi walled carbon nano tubes) like FCNTs (Functionalized carbon nano tubes), D1 and D2 in ‘Malbhog’ Invitro regeneration.

Colletotrichum musae inciting margin leaf blight of banana was isolated using the infected samples showing typical symptoms. The changes in growth and sporulation of the obtained culture when exposed to different abiotic factors such as media, hydrogen ion concentration and light were recorded to check their influence on fungal development.

The present study was conducted to assess the effect of composite culture of Azotobacter and Phosphate solubulizing bacteria with different combinations of organic, inorganic fertilizations on growth performance of in vitro propagated Banana, cv. Grand Naine. The in vitro rooted plantlets were hardened and acclimatized by using different treatments (five treatments comprising of inoculation of composite culture, vermicompost and Inorganic fertilization) carried out in CRD replicated four times.

A comparative study on the anticancer effects of anthocyanins derived from banana cv. Nendran flower bracts against human colon (HT-29) and cervical cancer (HeLa) cells were investigated. In vitro assays by MTT, AO/EtBr and MMP revealed that anthocyanins extract inhibited the growth of both HT-29 and HeLa cells. The percentage of cell viability decreased linearly with increment of anthocyanins. The IC50 values for anthocyanins were 41.18 µg/ml for colon cancer cells and 46.50 µg/ml for the cervical cancer cells by MTT assay. The MMP assay indicated IC50 values of 71.18 and 106.

The effect of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) on growth and nutrient uptake of banana plants (Musa acuminate) cv. ‘Grande Naine’ during nursery stage in a greenhouse was tested. After acclimatization stage, plants were inoculated with various doses of Arbuscular mycorrhiza fungi (AMF). AMF inoculum consisted of a mixture of Glomus etunicatum, Glomus intraradices and Glomus monosporum spores at concentration of 250spore/ml. After 20 weeks, vegetative growth parameters, root parameters, mineral content and protein were determined.

Banana (Musa sp.) is the second most important fruit crop in India next to mango. Its year round availability, affordability, varietal range, taste, and nutritive medicinal value makes it the favorite fruit among all classes of people. Suckers are the unwanted plants that grow around the mother plant and greatly affect the mother plant growth, taking essential nutrients from them. It also affects the banana bunch growth hence affecting the physical properties and their characteristics which ultimately affects the quality.

Banana (Musa paradiscica L) is a very important fruit crop. It ranks second in the table of importance after mango. It can be grown in tropical and sub-tropical regions. It is grown for its commercial importance since it has both medicinal properties and nutritive value. Due to its qualitative property and high nutritive value banana enjoy its significance in the community. Keeping in view its high commercial importance, an on farm trial was designed for standardization of fertilizer in banana for quality yield.
