  • Anaemia is a pathological condition in which the oxygen carrying capacity of red blood cells is insufficient to meet body’s needs, which leads to problems to mother and poor fetal and placental outcome. The aim of the study was to compare the fetal and placental outcome among Anaemic and non- anaemic mothers of selected hospital of district Mohali, Punjab.A quantitative research approach with comparative design was adopted.

  • Anemia refers to low hemoglobin (Hb) level and is a risk factor of cancer patient survival. The National Comprehensive Cancer Network recently suggested that post-diagnosis Hb change, regardless of baseline Hb level, indicates the potential presence of anemia.

  • BK-UM (CRM197) is a mutant form of diphtheria toxin and a specific inhibitor of heparin-binding epidermal growth factor-like growth factor (HB-EGF). We assessed the safety, pharmacokinetics, recommended dose, and efficacy of BK-UM in patients with recurrent ovarian cancer (OC) or peritoneal cancer (PC), and measured HB-EGF levels in serum and abdominal fluid after BK-UM administration.

  • Hepatitis B Infection is an occupational high risk factor. Immune response for vaccination was measured by Antibody to Hepatitis B surface antigen (anti HBs) levels. A course of Hep B vaccine yields a protective immune response (anti-HBs ≥10 mIU/mL) this study was designed to determine the anti HBs levels in Health Care Workers (HCWs) working as laboratory technician and staff nurses.

  • Hepatitis B viral infection is a major health problem worldwide. New cases can be prevented by immunization with hepatitis B vaccine containing the genetically engineered surface antigen. Values of ≥ 10 IU/ml are considered protective. However a small percentage of individuals fail to develop these levels. Such non responders are at risk of acquiring Hepatitis B virus infection. This is of concern especially in health care personnel. The study comprised of 100 female medical students from Mallareddy Medical College for Women, Suraram who completed the standard 3 dose course of vaccination.

  • Iron has an important role in various metabolic processes and as a central structure of hemoglobin (Hb) for the process of transporting oxygen. Malnutrition from the beginning of pregnancy until the end of pregnancy will cause problems with labor, premature birth, low birth weight in infants to maternal death. The importance of examining serum Ferritin levels as early detection of iron deficiency anemia is especially carried out before pregnancy or early pregnancy (trimester I), given the high incidence of iron deficiency anemia in pregnant women and its impacts.

  • Anemia remains a major public health problem among children under five years old in Ethiopia, rising unexpectedly from 44% national prevalence in 2011 to 57% in 2016. In this study, we investigated the household, maternal and child-related dietary and non-dietary factors associated with hemoglobin (Hb) level of infants and young children.

  • Among all the gastrointestinal nematodes belonging to family Trichostrongylidae, Haemonchus contortus is the most prevalent and highly pathogenic nematode causing severe loss to small ruminant production system. Parasite causes alterations in various physiological parameters with disturbances in haemato-biochemical blood profile. Experiment was conducted in eighteen (n=18) non-descript sheep that were randomly divided into two groups, infected (Group-A) and (Group-B) the negative control. Group- A animals were infected with 10,000 L3 of H.contortus.

  • Beta cyfluthrin is widely used multipurpose synthetic pyrethroid. Indiscriminate uses resulting to deleterious effects in animal metabolism. Present study has been designed to investigate the effects of beta cyfluthrin on haemato-biochemical alteration in both the sexes of Wistar rats (Rattus norvegicus). Beta cyfluthrin was orally administered, 38.0 mg/kg b. wt. (high dose), 12.66 mg/kg b. wt. (mid dose), 4.22 mg/kg b. wt. (low dose) for 90 days with high dose recovery.

  • Three separate experiments were carried out to assess combined effects of temperature and salinity and induced stress on blood variables of Tra catfish (Pangasianodon hypophthalmus) fingerlings. Some hematological parameters included Haemoglobin concentration, glucose and pH levels which were tested in different conditions. The experiment 1 aimed to test how blood variables change in different temperature (24, 28-30, 32 oC) and salinity (0, 6 and 12 ppt) while the experiment 2 induced catfish fingerlings to different stress time (5, 15 and 30 min.).

  • Canine babesiosis is a hemoprotozoan parasite affecting dogs. The goal of this study was to provide an overview of molecular examination of babesiosis and heamato-biochemical changes in canine babesiosis infected dogs. In this study, 8 cases infected with Babesia were confirmed by means of hematological, biochemical and multiplex PCR. The most common clinical signs were anorexia, pale or icteric mucous membranes, high rise of temperature and dark urine colour.

  • Inflammation and oxidative stress are two faces of one coin in end stage renal disease patients (ESRD) on maintenance hemodialysis. Their interconnection induces anemia complicated with erythropoietin hyporesponsiveness. The biochemical bases behind the resistance to erythropoietin therapy with frequent hemoglobinemia, oxidative stress and iron status have not been fully understood. Here two equal groups (40 patients each) of responders and non-responders to recombinant human erythropoietin therapy (higher than 300 IU/kg/wk of epoetin) were inves-tigated.

  • Twelve stable structures of the interactions of HCN with RCHO (R = H, F, Cl, Br, NH2, CH3) are located on the potential energy surface at the MP2/aug-cc-pVDZ level. Interaction energies including both ZPE and BSSE corrections range from -5.80 to -21.07 kJ.mol-1 . The result of SAPT analysis shows that the electrostatic component has mainly contributed to the stability of the complexes. It is remarkable that the most stable complex of HCHO∙∙∙HCN is P1-Hb which has not been reported in the literature.

  • At HBS, I owe considerable gratitude to Prof. Forest Reinhardt and his willingness to cooper- ate on the editing of an HBS case study on corporate strategy at the German energy giant E.ON. Thanks to his support, I was able to challenge my research at a very high level and to experience the exciting and inspiring atmosphere at Harvard University. I also want to thank Andrew Feldman and the folks of MIT Euroclub for their friendship and personal support. Like any dissertation, this study would not have been possible without the support of prac- tioners that provide the empirical data.

  • Hydroxyurea’s efficacy in sickle cell disease is generally attributed to its ability to raise the levels of Hb F in the blood; however, the mechanisms by which it does so are unclear. Early studies suggested that hydroxyurea is cytotoxic to the more rapidly dividing late erythroid precursors, resulting in the recruitment of early erythroid precursors with an increased capacity to produce Hb F.

  • Unstable hemoglobins occur sporadically, often by spontaneous new mutations. Heterozygotes are often symptomatic because a significant Heinz body burden can develop even when the unstable variant accounts for a portion of the total hemoglobin. Symptomatic unstable hemoglobins tend to be β-globin variants, because sporadic mutations affecting only one of the four α-globins would generate only 20–30% abnormal hemoglobin. Hemoglobins with Altered Oxygen Affinity High-affinity hemoglobins [e.g.
