Most young Vietnamese people now have access to the movement of voluntary blood donation. Volunteers who want to donate blood must meet certain health requirements and wait at least three months between donations. As a result, the blood received falls below the bare minimum, resulting in reserve anemia. Based on these practical requirements, the article proposes a tool to assist health facilities in locating people willing to donate blood in hazardous situations within a reasonable distance.

Determine whether women and men differ in volunteering to join a Research Recruitment Registry when invited to participate via an electronic patient portal without human bias. This supports the view that historical under-representation of women in clinical studies is likely due, at least in part, to implicit bias in offering participation.

Workers in the zinc production and processing of galvanized sheet steel are exposed to a complex mixture of particles and gases, including zinc oxide (ZnO) that can affect human health. We aimed to study the effects of short-term controlled exposure to nano-sized ZnO on airway inflammatory markers in healthy volunteers.

Need-oriented family support programs are examples of voluntary-based interventions increasingly recognized by the public sector as an important contribution to health and social care provision. Voluntary interventions are attractive because of their focus on activism, inclusion, and participation, but also their low cost and easy accessibility.

Salivary bioscience technologies such as electrophoresis are widely applied for diagnosing systemic health status. Diagnosis using a saliva sample has emerged as a preferred technique since the sample is easy to collect and the method is inexpensive and non-invasive. Salivary diagnostics have even been identified as potential substitutes for serum protein biomarkers.

Participation in in-service training can be a challenge for health workers, especially those stationed in remote areas. Spaced education is an innovative learning methodology that can be delivered electronically by Internet or mobile smartphone. This pilot study, which followed a convenience sample of 37 Ethiopian nationals enrolled in a spaced education course over a six-month period, attempted to determine the acceptability and effectiveness of the methodology in a low-resource context.

Congregations Manage Volunteers in Social Outreach. We learned that an estimated 83 percent of the nation’s 380,000 congregations have some kind of social service, community development, or neighborhood organizing project. Although most congregations have social service outreach programs, most are involved as partners or sponsors and therefore do not manage volunteers themselves. However, one in three congregations— an estimated 129,000 such organizations—have responsibility for managing volunteers in social service outreach activities.

According to the United States Department of Defense, by the end of 1993 there were 2,036,646 reservists and family members and 3,343,235 active duty and family members for a total of 5,379,781 people affected by the military. Since then, because of the conflict in Iraq, the numbers have dramatically increased. While we have always had military families in our midst, not since the Vietnam War have their struggles been so vivid, particularly with alarming rates of increase of both suicide and divorce among military personnel.
