In this study, the mean nearest neighbor distance between two atoms, the Helmholtz free energy and characteristic quantities for elastic deformation such as elastic moduli E, G, K and elastic constants C11, C12, C44 for binary interstitial alloys with FCC structure under pressure are derived with the statistical moment method.

The stable phase of Gd, Tb, Sc, Y and Yb metals can be determined by examining the Helmholtz free energy at a given temperature, i.e. the phase that gives the lowest free energy will be stable. These findings on the structural phase transition temperature are in agreement with previous experiments.

The Helmholtz free energy, mean-square atomic displacements and Young’s modulus E are derived in closed analytic forms in terms of the power moments of the atomic displacements. Numerical calculations for Young’s modulus of W and Nb thin films are found to be in good and reasonable agreement with those of other theoretical results and experimental data.
