Heuristic evaluation

In this paper, we survey the approach for solving the maximum clique graph problem in the direction of metaheuristic algorithms and evaluate the quality of these research based on the experimental data system DIMACS. This survey can be useful for further research on maximum clique graph problems.

This paper suggests a new solution to conceal text messages in media by hybridizing a meta-heuristic algorithm of the Gravity search algorithm (GSA) and transposition method. Several stages are implemented, namely the concealment stage, extract stage, and evaluation metrics, whereas cover text and message text are split into blocks, and each block contains one letter, relying on the fitness value of related notes both of secret information and cover message.

In this paper, we present a novel global protein-protein interaction network alignment algorithm, which is enhanced with an extended large neighborhood search heuristics. Evaluated on benchmark datasets of yeast, fly, human and worm, the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms. Furthermore, the complexity of ours is polynomial, thus being scalable to large biological networks in practice.

This paper presents a heuristic method to minimize makespan for different jobs in a job shop scheduling. The proposed model is based on a constructive procedure to obtain good quality schedules, very quickly. The performance of the proposed model of this paper is examined on standard benchmarks from the literature in order to evaluate its performance.

This study aims at adapting artificial bee colony as an alternative and efficient optimization strategy for solving RCPSP and investigating its performance on the RCPSP. To evaluate the artificial bee colony, its performance is investigated against other meta-heuristics for solving case studies in the PSPLIB library. Simulation results show that the artificial bee colony presents an efficient way for solving resource constrained project scheduling problem.

This paper addresses the application of a self-organizing fuzzy logic controller (SOFLC) to actively deal with the real-time variation of the plant’s characteristics. SOFLC is a heuristic methodology where the control rules are generated and improved automatically according to the evaluation of the system’s behavior, and to modify the control rule based on the system performance evaluation.

This paper presents the solution to problems of fuzzy ranking Vietnamese documents using approach of Hedge Algebra based on envaluating an accordance of found documents by heuristic criteria. These criteria firstly are evaluated by degree of importance (weight) and then are combined following some aggregation operator to define final evaluation unique number, that will be used for sorting the documents. The experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

Decoding algorithm is a crucial part in statistical machine translation. We describe a stack decoding algorithm in this paper. We present the hypothesis scoring method and the heuristics used in our algorithm. We report several techniques deployed to improve the performance of the decoder. We also introduce a simplified model to moderate the sparse data problem and to speed up the decoding process. We evaluate and compare these techniques/models in our statistical machine translation system.

The search space of Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation (PBSMT) systems can be represented under the form of a directed acyclic graph (lattice). The quality of this search space can thus be evaluated by computing the best achievable hypothesis in the lattice, the so-called oracle hypothesis. In this paper, we present a feature-based method to align documents with similar content across two sets of bilingual comparable corpora from daily news texts.
