  • There are several user-based and expert-based usability evaluation methods that may perform differently according to the context in which they are used. The objective of this study was to compare 2 expertbased methods, heuristic evaluation (HE) and cognitive walkthrough (CW), for evaluating usability of health care information systems.

  • This paper suggests a new solution to conceal text messages in media by hybridizing a meta-heuristic algorithm of the Gravity search algorithm (GSA) and transposition method. Several stages are implemented, namely the concealment stage, extract stage, and evaluation metrics, whereas cover text and message text are split into blocks, and each block contains one letter, relying on the fitness value of related notes both of secret information and cover message.

  • In this paper, we present a novel global protein-protein interaction network alignment algorithm, which is enhanced with an extended large neighborhood search heuristics. Evaluated on benchmark datasets of yeast, fly, human and worm, the proposed algorithm outperforms state-of-the-art algorithms. Furthermore, the complexity of ours is polynomial, thus being scalable to large biological networks in practice.

  • This paper presents a heuristic method to minimize makespan for different jobs in a job shop scheduling. The proposed model is based on a constructive procedure to obtain good quality schedules, very quickly. The performance of the proposed model of this paper is examined on standard benchmarks from the literature in order to evaluate its performance.

  • This study aims at adapting artificial bee colony as an alternative and efficient optimization strategy for solving RCPSP and investigating its performance on the RCPSP. To evaluate the artificial bee colony, its performance is investigated against other meta-heuristics for solving case studies in the PSPLIB library. Simulation results show that the artificial bee colony presents an efficient way for solving resource constrained project scheduling problem.

  • This paper addresses the minimization of makespan for the permutation flow shop scheduling problem with blocking and sequence and machine dependent setup times, a problem not yet studied in previous studies. The 14 best known heuristics for the permutation flow shop problem with blocking and no setup times are pre-sented and then adapted to the problem in two different ways; resulting in 28 differ-ent heuristics. The heuristics are then compared using the Taillard database

  • Large-scale comparative studies of DNA fingerprints prefer automated chip capillary electrophoresis over conventional gel planar electrophoresis due to the higher precision of the digitalization process. However, the determination of band sizes is still limited by the device resolution and sizing accuracy. Band matching, therefore, remains the key step in DNA fingerprint analysis.

  • The usability of health information technology (IT) is increasingly recognized as critically important to the development of systems that ensure patient safety and quality of care. The substantial complexity of organizations, work practice and physical environments within the healthcare sector influences the development and application of health IT. When health IT is introduced in local clinical work practices, potential patient safety hazards and insufficient support of work practices need to be examined.

  • This study is an effort to propose a conceptual model to measure the impact assessment of entrepreneurship pedagogic. It delineates entrepreneurship education pedagogic into four dimensions and opined specific level for each dimension. Reviewing the entrepreneurship education programme, assessment of entrepreneurship pedagogic evaluates the structure that influence growth mindset development through embedded heuristic strategies, thus, the impact on entrepreneurship knowledge and entrepreneurial capital asset context is proposed.

  • This paper addresses the application of a self-organizing fuzzy logic controller (SOFLC) to actively deal with the real-time variation of the plant’s characteristics. SOFLC is a heuristic methodology where the control rules are generated and improved automatically according to the evaluation of the system’s behavior, and to modify the control rule based on the system performance evaluation.

  • This paper presents the solution to problems of fuzzy ranking Vietnamese documents using approach of Hedge Algebra based on envaluating an accordance of found documents by heuristic criteria. These criteria firstly are evaluated by degree of importance (weight) and then are combined following some aggregation operator to define final evaluation unique number, that will be used for sorting the documents. The experimental results are presented to show the effectiveness of the proposed solution.

  • Decoding algorithm is a crucial part in statistical machine translation. We describe a stack decoding algorithm in this paper. We present the hypothesis scoring method and the heuristics used in our algorithm. We report several techniques deployed to improve the performance of the decoder. We also introduce a simplified model to moderate the sparse data problem and to speed up the decoding process. We evaluate and compare these techniques/models in our statistical machine translation system.

  • The search space of Phrase-Based Statistical Machine Translation (PBSMT) systems can be represented under the form of a directed acyclic graph (lattice). The quality of this search space can thus be evaluated by computing the best achievable hypothesis in the lattice, the so-called oracle hypothesis. For common SMT metrics, this problem is however NP-hard and can only be solved using heuristics.

  • An utterance may be syntactically and semantIcally well-formed yet violate the pragmatic rules of the world model. This paper presents a context-based strateEy for constructing a cooperative but limited response to pragmatlcally illformed queries. Sug~estlon heuristics use a context model of the speaker's task inferred from the preceding dialogue to propose revisions to the speaker's ill-formed query. Selection heuristics then evaluate these suggestions based upon semantic and relevance criteria. ...
