High polyunsaturated fatty acid

In this study, we used the reliable GC-FID/MS technique to analyze the methyl ester derivatives of 37 different kinds of fatty acids. The results showed that high saturated fat concentration in all samples was mostly palmitic acid, whereas the low unsaturated fatty acid content in the cis form was primarily oleic acid and linoleic acid. The amount of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats is quite low.

Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a complex and traumatic abdominal surgery with a high risk of postoperative complications. Nutritional support, including immunonutrition (IMN) with added glutamine, arginine, and ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, can improve patients’ prognosis by regulating postoperative inflammatory response. However, the effects of IMN on PD patients’ outcomes require further investigation.

Thraustochytrium is a heterotrophic marine microalgae genus belonging to the Labyrinthula class, Thraustochytriaceae (Thraustochytrids) family. Recently, studied results have showed that some species/strains of Thraustochytrium genus are potential candidates to produce biomass rich in lipid containing high polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFAs), especially docosahexaenoic (DHA C22: 6 ω-3), carotenoid, extracellular polysaccharides (EPSs) and enzymes which play a crucial role in human health.

The hypolipidemic effect of fat spreads containing flaxseed oil (rich plant source of longchain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid) represents the aim of the present study. Such effect was biologically evaluated through assessment of four biochemical parameters that reflect the blood serum lipid profile, namely total cholesterol, low- and high-density lipoproteins

Sacha Inchi (Plukenetia volubilis L.), which belongs to the Euphorbiaceae, has been considered a new potential oil crop because of its high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in its seed oil. The seed oil especially contains high amounts of α-linolenic acid (ALA), which is useful for the prevention of various diseases. However, little is known about the genetic information and genome sequence of Sacha Inchi, which has largely hindered functional genomics and molecular breeding studies.

In the current work, we have investigated the differential expression of mRNA isoforms in the gluteus medius (GM) muscle of 52 Duroc HIGH (increased backfat thickness, intramuscular fat and saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids contents) and LOW pigs (opposite phenotype, with an increased polyunsaturated fatty acids content).

High levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids in chicken spermatozoa make them susceptible to lipoperoxidation and reduce their fertility. This study was conducted to assess the effect of sesame seed suplementation in the diet on the semen quality of Ho cocks. Eighteen 13-14 month-old cocks were randomly divided into three groups and were assigned to one of the following treatments: 0% SS (control), 5% SS, or 7% sesame seeds per kg of diet for ten consecutive weeks after a two-week adaptation period. Semen characteristics were evaluated once a week.

The ability to modulate levels of individual fatty acids within soybean oil has potential to increase shelf-life and frying stability and to improve nutritional characteristics. Commodity soybean oil contains high levels of polyunsaturated linoleic and linolenic acid, which contribute to oxidative instability – a problem that has been addressed through partial hydrogenation.

Flaxseed oil is characterized by high content of essential polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) promoted as a human dietary supplement protecting against atherosclerosis. The disadvantage of the high PUFA content in flax oil is high susceptibility to oxidation, which can result in carcinogenic compound formation.

For improvement of genetic program in animal, artificial insemination (AI) with liquid or frozen semen and quality of semen plays a major role for it. Sperm cells have a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in their membranes, and they lack a significant cytoplasmic component containing antioxidants. Therefore, they are susceptible to lipid peroxidation by the action of the reactive oxygen species (ROS).

Diets enriched with n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) have been shown to exert a positive impact on muscle diseases. Flaxseed is one of the richest sources of n-3 PUFA acid α-linolenic acid (ALA). The aim of this study was to assess the effects of flaxseed and ALA in models of skeletal muscle degeneration characterized by high levels of Tumor Necrosis Factor-α (TNF).

A survey of the three kinetoplastid genome projects revealed the presence of three putative front-end desaturase genes inLeishmania major, one in Trypanosoma bruceiand two highly identical ones (98%) inT. cruzi. The encoded gene products were tentatively annotated as D8, D5 and D6 desaturases for L. major, and D6 desaturase for both trypanosomes.

A clustering of the disease among close relatives has also been shown, although there is no consensus on which inheritable genetic defects are involved. In spite of extensive research, reliable findings on risk factors relating to lifestyle, diet or the environment remain elusive. Possible lifestyle risk factors are high intakes of α-linolenic acid (a polyunsaturated fatty acid in vegetables and dairy products) and calcium.
